Alisha Wilson's Short Story
It was six-thirty in the morning, when fourteen-year-old Alisha Wilson's alarm went off. She sat up, promptly quieting the screaming electronic. Rubbing her eyes awake, she realized today was Monday. Normally this was a day she usually enjoyed; however, this particular morning was different. It was the first day of school, in a new town with new people. A million negative thoughts ran though her head, and the stress made her uneasy. Bang! “Wake up, wake up, wake up!!!” Alisha's silence was shattered by her five-year-old, bright-eyed, bushy-tailed sister, Marsha. Marsha had barged her way into Alisha’s room and proceeded to jump on her bed. “Today is day one, today is day one!” She exclaimed, jumping up and down, causing her curly hair to bounce. …show more content…
There, she found her nine-year-old sister Clara sitting at the table and her twelve-year-old brother Fletcher. Clara had her nose stuck in a book and cramming a bagel into her mouth. “Morning,” Alisha greeted, pouring herself a bowl of Cheerios. Clara just nodded and mumbled a hello, mouth still full. Alisha only ate half of her breakfast, before putting her dirty bowl in the dishwasher. It was almost seven o'clock, almost time to head to school. Alisha heard a bus rumble down the road, Clara having now eaten all her bagel, hurriedly grabbed her backpack, and yelled, “MOM! The bus is here!” Alisha picked up her backpack and slowly walked toward the door. Marsha came skipping down the stairs, tired Mrs. Wilson in tow. Alisha awaited them at the door, but Mrs. Wilson waved her on, “I'm going to drive Marsha myself, you go on before you’re late.” Alisha nodded, waved goodbye, and walked out the door. Then she boarded the yellow bus, made her way to an empty seat next to a blonde headed girl. The girl moved over to make room, Alisha sat down and they sat in awkward silence until the blonde haired girl spoke. “Hi Alisha, I’m Lilith King, although everyone calls me Lily,” Lilith shook Alisha’s …show more content…
The car was half way over the tracks when the train hit the rear of the car. Sabrina threw her arms around her niece protectively, and held her tight. The car spun and crashed into a tree. Alisha's world turned black. When she did gain some consciousness someone was holding her hand, she was in so much pain. "Why?" she wondered, and then the horrible accident was replayed in her mind, the sound of brakes, the screams, the smell of blood, but the worse thing was the tomblike silence that drowned out all other noise. A silence that is so thick, and black, like she was stuck in a room and couldn't get out. She panicked; no it couldn't end like this. She then stopped fighting the deafening silence and let it carry her far away. She woke, bright lights blinded her, she wasn't in heaven and she wasn't dead. On fact she was in a hospital, she painfully look to her right. There she saw her mother sitting by her bed asleep "Mom?" she croaked. Mrs., Wilson woke up surprised, and looked at Alisha "Baby your awake" her mom stoked her Alisha's hair, "nurse, she's awake. " "Mom aunt Rina" Alisha croaked. "She’s fine honey, shh..It’s ok." Alisha relaxed hearing her aunt was ok,. With that she slipped into a delightful sleep, a sleep filled with a relaxing

“Ugh!”, he grunts from how large the suitcase is. “Will you be able to carry that, Scottie?” she says, her face, worn from time, twists with concern for her son. “Of course”, he laughs. “Okay, if you’re sure.” She says as she opens the metal gate to the front yard. They slowly walk through the cracked pathway until they reach the steps to the porch. Beatrice opens the sturdy door with her keys. “Honey, I’m home!” Scottie yells into the empty living room. “Must you do that every time you come inside the house?” She says fondly. “Of course, I must.” He says as if she should already have known the answer. While they were talking, Alice and Jake, Scottie’s younger siblings, heard his announcement and excitedly ran out of their room and down the beige stairs. “Stop making all that racket!” she admonishes her children. “SCOTTIE!” they yell out enthusiastically. “You’re home!” Alice states, full of wonder that her big older brother is finally back where he belongs. “Well, it’s obvious that I’m home unless I’m an imposer who’s secretly an alien”, He jokes, winking at Alice. “I definitely didn’t miss your humor,” Jake lightheartedly says. “Oh, come on, I tell the best jokes”, Scottie says smiling. “Yeah right, in your dreams”, Jake jokingly teases. “Leave your brother alone for right now. He had a long trip and he’s probably exhausted.” Beatrice gently tells to her…

There were dozens of turns. It was like solving a crossword puzzle. She didn’t know where or when to turn. As Isabelle became out of breath, and couldn’t run anymore, she collapsed on the dusty path. She began to cry. Her tears fell onto the sand that lay next to her head, creating a pattern that reminded her of her mother’s polka dot dress. Isabelle wanted to be with her mother, and hold her tight like it was the last time she’d see her. Maybe she wouldn’t see her mother again. Maybe she’d starve to death. “My class must be having lunch by now,” Isabelle thought to herself, “laughing and giggling, not even realizing that I am gone.” She wondered if Anna had even realized she’d gone missing, knowing she was so focused on her work. “She probably would have seen Isabelle following the deer if she hadn’t had her face stuck in that paper of hers,” she…

The train stopped suddenly, and Olivia was sent flying out of her seat. She stumbled towards the front and hit something hard. Next thing she knew, she was laying in the aisle with a headache and a loud ringing in her ears. She glanced at the dark, gray ceiling for a moment, before sitting up and looking around. Olivia could barely see, partially because it was the middle of the night, but also because her glasses had shattered when the train stopped. Everything was incredibly blurry, so she had to feel her way around, and soon she noticed a thick, bitter scent in the air… the smell of smoke.…

Before I could even comprehend, my aunt was convulsing, with eyes rolled back and foam forming at the mouth. Hurriedly, my mom pulled her out of her wheelchair and rolled her on her left side. When the paramedics arrived, it felt like the universe was in slow motion. Voices seemed a million miles away, like soft echoes ricocheting off ragged cave walls. I was infinitely in shock; I could not process my surroundings. Mom rode in the ambulance, while I rode in Grandma Vita’s car. This moment would be the last time I saw Aunt Dori until tomorrow. The hospital was abnormally clean. Some rooms emitted no sound, however, others squealed well into the night. I never in truth noticed patients. Windows and cemented columns at every turn. The air conditioner was blasting from all angles. The doctors came by and solemnly murmured they desired to speak with my mother in private. Their eyes said to leave. Furious, I stomped off to the visitor waiting area. I may have appeared enraged on the outside, but it was all a charade. On the inside I was panic-stricken and somber. What was wrong with Aunt Dori? Why could I not attain answers? Mom returned with a pained expression on her face as the doctors calmly strode away. I recall her breaking the news to me sighing, “Do not worry, sweetheart. Everything is going to be fine.” She relayed the information from the doctors frankly, holding nothing back.…

At one-thirty in the afternoon, Carolee Mitchell was running the vacuum cleaner, or she would have heard the first sirens and looked out. After the first, there weren’t any others. The calling voices, even the number of dogs barking, could have been students on their way back to school, high-spirited in the bright, cold earliness of the year. Thinking back on the sounds, Carolee remembered a number of car doors being slammed, that swallow of air and report which made her smooth her hair automatically even if she wasn’t expecting anyone. But what caught her eye finally was what…

Taking in her surroundings Alicia saw the campsite they set up just about an hour before. Screams suddenly burst through the woods and hands groped for the two girls. “Come join the many he has killed” whispers said barely audible over the screams that said otherwise. “Survive” Alicia said under her breath as she moved Persephone to the tent. “It’s just a matter of surviving” she thought. “One of you has died” the two voices sang. “You’ve lost. Now your our’s forever” then laughter filled the air. Alicia hoped more than anything they would leave Persephone alone. The hands dragged Alicia back to the house and stitched up her mouth. “Persephone, my sister, is safe” was the only thought that keeps Alicia alive in the life sentence given by a girl who just wanted to see her sister, one last…

From what I remember, the world was rainy and dull that morning. Staring at the grey walls of my bedroom I tried, albeit lackadaisically, to clamber out my bed. After several futile “attempts”, I rolled onto my side and buried my head into my pillow like a frightened ostrich sticking its head in sand. Indolently, my fingers grazed my cheek and ran past the dried tear stains from the night before. Slowly, I sat up, shoulders hunched over, clutching my comforter to my chest, and again cried. As the new tears began to run down my face, I wondered, why? Why had this wonderful woman, at thirty-seven years of age, who deserved a full life and everything it had to offer die? Why had this wonderful woman’s three children, all under the age of eleven, lost their mother? Why was this wonderful woman, in whom I could confide, torn away because of that vile cancer? Why did my Aunt Boo Boo die?…

It was the beginning of June, a steamy summer day in Florida. School was in recess so I was able to sleep late that day. When I woke up I mentally sorted out my schedule. “Nothing much,” I thought, “just a normal day; work then home.” I got out of bed, ate breakfast, took a shower, and got ready for work at the local sandwich shop. I did not expect to receive an unforgettable call at work from my then girlfriend’s sister, Jahaira.…

For Sophie and Josh Newman, two fifteen-year-olds, it had been a regular Thursday May 31st until Sophie saw four strange men. They walked into Nick Fleming’s bookstore across the street, where Josh worked. At the same time, Josh was in the bookstores cellar. He suddenly noticed that something smelled like rotten eggs and mint. He went upstairs but noticed the smell just got stronger. He saw Nick and another man moving their fingers with tendrils of yellow and green smoke coming from them. Perry, Nick’s wife, walked into The Coffee Cup where Sophie worked. She asked why she was inhaling tealeaves. Sophie responded that she wanted to know where the smell of rotten eggs was coming from. Perry sighed, “Not today,” told Sophie to stay, and ran to the bookstore. Sophie took a broom and followed her. There she saw another man attacking Nick and Josh, and she started hitting the man with the broom. The man used what Sophie thought was magic to throw her and Perry away. The man took a book that Nick had given to Josh, but Josh held on to the last two pages. The two pages ripped off from the rest of the book, but the man didn’t notice and ran back to his car. He told his servant to take the unconscious Perry with him and then left.…

Already it had marked a year since the devastating news had been revealed to her. On this particular day, Janee had been very sick and was lying in bed trying to sleep, as this was her only means of comfort. As she lied there, feeling miserable, she thought to herself that she should call the hospice to see how her mother was doing; Janee had called everyday to ask the nurses how she was doing. Every time Janee called to check on her mother, she always received the same report, they always made it sound as if she was doing okay or better than the day before. To bring the family together, Janee had planned for the family to drive down and visit her mother that Friday, and celebrate her daughter’s birthday all in conjunction. Continuing to lay in bed, consumed by all of her thoughts, Janee’s heart nearly jumped out of her chest, in fear, as she heard her mother scream her name in the most unpleasant manner. Promptly, Janee sat up and became extremely emotional. Thus, she knew something was…

It was a beautiful, sunny, late spring afternoon in the year 2006. Rebecca, my older sister, and I had just skipped off the school bus by the yellow fire hydrant on the opposite side of the sloped street from my house. I could see the cheerful park where we loved to play just a short distance away. Taking a deep breath in, I could smell the flowers planted along the sidewalk. Mother was outside with my three younger sisters: Karissa, Alora, and baby Samantha. Karissa and Alora frolicked around the lawn, picking bright yellow dandelions to present to mother, who sat in the shade of the house guarding Samantha against the bright sunlight. Crossing the street, I saw choke cherry trees with pretty pink budding, and a beautiful green lawn…
