We stumbled to the bar after the bouncer approved our fake IDs. As we danced with two cute boys, they popped acid tablets and asked if we wanted to try. Being the naive, party gals that we are, we said, “Hell yeah!” At first nothing happened, but as we were grooving to the beat, the two boys pointed out that the floor opened into a black hole and the four of us jumped into it. Jordan cheered, “We all just dropped it like it’s hot!” and the rest of us laughed hysterically until we realized we were actually in Hell. All of a sudden, a blonde girl appeared behind us and introduced herself as Alice. Alice said she would give us a tour of Hell because she herself has fallen down the hole a few times. She explained that Hell is a funnel shape with…

Going "down the rabbit hole" has become a common metaphor in popular culture, symbolizing everything from exploring a new world to taking drugs to delving into something unknown. Think “The Matrix”, for example, where "following the white rabbit" and later choosing the "red pill" starts Neo off on a journey of philosophical realization from which he cannot return. In Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the rabbit hole is the place where it all begins. It's Alice's unthinking decision to follow the White Rabbit that leads to all of her adventures. The pop culture version of this symbol perhaps doesn't take into account the "unthinking" nature of this choice quite enough.
