Animal Cruelty: The Mistreatment Of Animals
There are 1,920 cases of animal cruelty reported each year in the media. Sixty percent of abuse is directed at dogs, eighteen percent towards cats, and twenty-two percent is directed at other animals; it’s a big problem. Animal cruelty is any mistreatment of animals, including not responsibly caring for them, or refusing them food and water, and is illegal. There are many types of animal cruelty, but a large percent of it is neglect. Animal neglect is when an animal’s owner fails to provide anything that is vital for life, such as food, water, or necessary veterinary care, and though it can either be intentional or unintentional, the animal always suffers.

Nationwide, animal control agencies reported that animal neglect is the most common

Some types of intentional animal cruelty include fur farming, the cat and dog meat trade, poaching, dog fighting, factory farming, Greyhound racing, and many more. Fur farming is when animals are skinned alive, then left to die of infection; some animals live for up to ten minutes in complete agony before they succumb to death. In Asia the cat and dog meat trade is huge. Animals all over the world are poached and left dead for miscellaneous reasons. Factory farming is when chicks are ground up alive because they are male and not of use to the owners. Many Greyhounds are left for dead if they cannot win Greyhound racing for their masters. Unfortunately these are not the only types of intentional animal abuse. All of the world animals are being tortured and slaughtered. Even though animals do in fact feel pain, owners seem to disregard that fact when mistreating animals, as they leave them in prolonged pain.Animal cruelty is a huge problem throughout the world, with thousands of animals being tortured and killed each year.We can all do something to protect animals and stop animal cruelty from continuing to happen. Animal cruelty is much too common, and we can all do something to abolish it, whether it be becoming informed, reporting an abusive situation, or informing others about animal cruelty, someone has to protect these innocent

I am so sick of hearing cases on the news, like "Man from Atlanta is facing penalties in Georgia in which a puppy was cooked in an oven" or "Brothers in Atlanta are being charged for putting a puppy in a gas range and turning the gas on." Animal cruelty is one of the most common types of violence in the United States. It is not as accustomed to hear such heartbreaking cases as these. Some of the most common forms of animal cruelty are: Animal testing and experimentation in laboratories, lack of owners care and attention, and using animals as a way of entertainment. Now, lets take a closer look at these three forms of animal cruelty.…

Animal abuse is a topic that most people are aware of in this day and age. But to clarify this is not going to be a speech appealing to the pity of Sarah McLachlan's song during animal cruelty commercials. Believe me this topic is truly sad, but its gets worse when you look into the current problems. I will elaborate on what is currently being done. The SPCA is a very large benefactor in stopping animal abuse as many of you probably know by their numerous commercials asking for donations and public awareness but they cannot take this entire burden on their shoulders alone. The type of animal abuse I would like talk about is specific to farm animals. This is a particular topic that many people do not consider. The example i am going to use first is the life of a cow and then elaborate on chickens. A female cow on a dairy farm is repetitively impregnated, again, and again for the production of milk. Hundreds of cows residing on thousands of dairy farms across america are artificially inseminated to constantly produce milk for our consumption. After a time of nine months the cow gives birth to a calf, within hours or a day the calf is taken from the mom and transported to a veal…

In the Victorian Era one of the only types of animal cruelty was beating your animal to be mean or to make it behave. But in the present day more people have started hoarding animals. “Animal hoarding occurs when an individual is housing more animals than he or she can adequately care for. It is a complex issue that encompasses mental health, animal welfare and public safety concerns. Animal hoarding is defined by an inability to provide even minimal standards of nutrition, sanitation, shelter and veterinary care—often resulting in animal starvation, illness and death”(ASPCA,2017).Hoarding can be worse for the animals involved than being beaten. “Every year in the United States, a quarter of a million animals fall victim to hoarding. Animals collected range from cats and dogs to reptiles, rodents, birds, exotics and even farm animals. Animal hoarding is covered implicitly under every state’s animal cruelty statute, which typically requires caretakers to provide sufficient food, water and veterinary care”(ASPCA,2017). Also most hoarders do not have their animal spayed or neutered, which allows the animals to slowly multiply and become even harder to take care of. Also “In the majority of cases, animal hoarders believe they are helping their animals and deny this inability to provide minimum care” “In the majority of cases, animal hoarders believe they are helping their animals and deny this inability to provide minimum care” (ASPCA, 2017). On top of hoarding in the present day organizations have been founded to stop animal cruelty like the ASPCA. “The ASPCA’s efforts to protect animals span from federal laws to local courts to community engagement. We’re helping to prevent harmful situations for animals and to take action when they occur”(ASPCA,2017). These organizations did not exist in the Victorian Era when people did not think mistreating animals was…

Animal abuse is when someone inflicts pain or harm upon an animal such as not giving them their basic needs (food and water) to beating them. In between 5 and 7 million animal companions enter an animal shelter nationwide, every year (www.aspca.org), and within 50 miles of Hayward, CA, there are 170 animal cruelty cases reported (www.pet-abuse.com). Imagine what these innocent beings that cannot speak out to let the human know they are in pain feel. Animals need us to speak out and help reduce their suffering instead of making their lives worse. Animal safety needs to be improved by creating more laws to protect animals from harm. Animal cruelty is shaped by two forms of abuse, different types of animal abuse, opinions on how animal cruelty happens, organizations that help fight for animal rights, and ways to report it.…

Animal cruelty is a pressing subject in today’s society. Even though we use animals for their fur, entertainment, research and as food, we have to do it in a humane way that minimizes pain and suffering towards the animal in use due to animal rights laws that have been enacted. Small organizations such as the ALB (Animal Liberation Brigade), CAFT (Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade), COK (Compassion Over Killing), FoA (Friends of Animals), FFA (Fight For Animals), IDA (In Defense of Animals), LCA(Last Chance for Animals) MFA (Mercy for Animals), and larger more well known organizations like the WSPA (World Society for the Protection of Animals), ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and the Humane Society of the United States help to prevent and rescue victims of animal abuse. Animals are usually abused due to the fact that they cannot speak about the wrongs done to them and they cannot call out for help. Not just animal abuse is wrong, but any sort of abuse is immoral overall.…

We see animals every day. They are our pets, companions, and, to some, family. They are also our dinner, new jacket or bag, and the pain behind our household products. So when does it qualify as cruel, or even inhumane? What is animal cruelty? According to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) “Intentional cruelty, or abuse, is knowingly depriving an animal of food, water, socialization, or veterinary care. Maliciously torturing, maiming, or killing an animal.” Three major examples of animal cruelty today are found in the food industry, shelters, and testing facilities.…

Every year, billions of animals die because of animal testing, abuse and are forced to struggle for survival. Left in unsanitary conditions with no food or water, they have little hope as they live out their days without the compassion they deserve. Some are found and rescued, given the chance to experience how great life and humans can be; others aren't so lucky. It really saddens me to know how cruel the world is and it seems like everything is getting worse as the days go by. To think that anyone could ever have the mentality to harm animals or anything that’s alive and breathing gets me so distraught! I can’t even imagine the hurt and pain these creatures go through.…

We all have an idea of what animal cruelty is but how much are you truly aware of this harmful abuse? Everyday animals are being beaten, neglected, and forced to struggle for survival. They are sometimes left in unsanitary conditions with no food or water, they have little hope as they live their days without the compassion they deserve. Some are found and rescued given the chance to experience how great life and humans can be; others aren't so lucky. Animal abuse affects us in many ways: it’s bad for our animals; it affects not only the animal but those who witness it. These animal abusers are criminals. To grow as a nation we must fight for these abused animals’ rights. It is up to us to speak for the animals that lack a voice, who will, if we won’t?…

Because animal cruelty has had such a negative impact policy makers have decided to act in favor of protecting our animals. The Animal Welfare Act (AWA), enacted in 1966, protects animal lives as it argues that they are equally as important as humans. The AWA grants the animal the right to positive quality of life while being used for research purposes. The notion of animal rights is “the idea that some, or all, non-human animals are entitled to the possession of their own lives and that their most basic interests—such as the need to avoid suffering—should be afforded the same consideration as similar interests of human beings” (“Animal rights”). As humans, there are certain laws and securities we are afforded to protect us from harm and experimentation.…

All too often, stories of animals being mistreated, unattended to, and even starved are commonplace in the daily news. This sorrowful and discouraging behavior is known as animal neglect where proper treatment and care are refused. Owners are delinquent in giving them shelter, water, food, and/or veterinary care due to laziness or, in nearly all cases, lack of concern over what happens to the animal. These animals can become sick, injured, or even die. Over the past decade, nearly 30 percent of animal neglect cases have been found by The Animal Legal Defense Fund. If animal abuse is not stopped, this percent will sadly rise.…
