What is Anthropology and Why is Evolution a part of this class? ! Anthropology, in a whole, is the study of humans. It is the study of mankind itself
and where we have evolved from as a species. Anthropology teaches how Evolution has always been apart of us as humans or as a species. Evolution needs to be taught in the classroom because evolution shows how and who we have evolved from over time. Without evolution and without genetic mutation, we may still have a tail where our tail bone is. We may still have giant jaws so our wisdom teeth could fit inside our mouths. Anthropology is the study of humans and Evolution is how we as a species have evolved over time. This is why Evolution is taught in Anthropology. With one comes the other. ! Anthropology is the study of humans and other species, past and present.

There are subdivisions within Anthropology such as: Biological/Physical Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology, and Archeology. ! subfield that studies human biological aspects by examining and thoroughly studying their skeletal and other physical remains. Physical Anthropology is the subfield of anthropology dealing with the genesis and variation of human beings. It deals with the human evolution and classification as well. This field is also called “somatology”. Somatology is defined as the study or science, of the human body as a branch of anthropology. This also includes the study of material substances.
