Antihistamine Research Paper
Over the counter medications like Benadryl, Tylenol PM and Advil PM contains antihistamine besides pain killers. Antihistamine causes drowsiness and hangover which makes people sleepy but there is little data that these help improve sleep.
People find these medications safer than the sleeping pills and take advantage of their side effects. On the other hand antihistamine could cause impair driving, racing of heart and constipation. For these reasons doctors and researchers do not recommend taking these medications for sleep. On top of that people are taking acetaminophen which could cause liver failure
