Assignment 303

Principles of diversity, equality and inclusion in adult social care settings

Task C

Ci - Write a reflective account describing:

- How your personal preferences, attitudes, heritage and beliefs might impact on working practice.
- How to ensure that your own practice is inclusive and respects the beliefs, culture, values and preferences of individuals.

My own values and beliefs, attitudes and heritage, may impact upon my working practice. As a second child of 4, growing up in a large family taught me that I am not the same as my siblings, I have different opinions and views, and differing attitudes. Being one of four children meant that not everything came my way as soon as Id have liked. I had to wait until Christmas for new clothes or toys as my parents couldn't always afford new things for us all. I lived in my elder sisters hand-me-downs for many years. This has taught me, not only the value of money and material items, but also how to be patient. I can now employ patience within my work place, and can understand why life might be financially challenging for some of the elderly people that I look after.
I was always considered as being a bit of a 'soft touch' when I was younger, constantly letting others have their way. In my older life, and particularly within my job role, this has taught me that I can be emphatic and sympathetic towards people. I have always been interested in history, including my own family history. When I was young, I would sit for hours on end listening to grandmas stories of her own background and where she came from. This has given me a sense of my own self and has taught me how to be a good listener with the people that I care for in my working life.
My parents always showed great dignity and respect for other people, their own parents, aunts, and uncles. My father would

Will this person also be in charge of the Active Directory? What is the budget, time-frame and schedule of this project? Does the other company have an IT Administrator or are they using a consultant? If so, it would be more cost effective to hire an IT Administrator. My personal preferences might impact my working practice as some of the service users only believe they need to be bathed or showered once a week, whereas I believe that they should all be bathed or showered at least twice a week to help maintain a high level of personal hygiene, some of the service users strongly disagree with this especially Mrs L, who is certain she only needs a shower or bath once a month, this conflicts with my beliefs that all service users need to be kept clean, by having a shower or bath once a month I find Mrs L to be unhygienic, however to respect Mrs L's wishes and preferences I must allow her to make her own choices, although I can try and persuade her to have a shower or bath more frequently, but this may be conflicting with her own preferences. This may affect my working practice as I may try and avoid Mrs L due to lack of personal hygiene, and therefore treat her differently to all the other service users within the home.…

I choose Rwanda as my developing country to write about and explore their health care, lending institutions and human capital system structure. Developing countries such as Rwanda lack what we in the United States take for granted as basic necessities. Rwanda is capable of overcoming the poor quality of life that it has grown accustomed to if the help they are receiving is allocated, dispersed and tracked accordingly. Rwanda is seen as a development model that other countries should mirror; they remain focused on the results of their labor and continue to show eagerness toward their global recognition. Financial Institutions such as the World Bank and IMF primaries focus is designed with one goal in mind; to assist developing countries attack their poverty levels head on. Rwandan lending institutions, health care and human capital infrastructure is essential to providing an overall basic life free of poverty stricken, disease infected, and financially poor country. After the conclusion of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, Rwanda was considered a failed state drowning in an unmatched state of poverty and chaos. The effects of the genocide destroyed what little financial, health care and human capital infrastructure that Rwanda had already established. The 1994 genocide eliminated an already fragile economic system, which posed insurmountable challenges while trying to rebuild and attract any potential private investors to fund the non-existent infrastructure. In reviewing Rwanda and its past, present and future current state affairs it’s clear that the focus must be on all three (lending, healthcare and human capital) entities to build an infrastructure and surpass the negative connotation of it being a third world country with little to no growth for its citizens. If the bureaucratic nonsense will take a back seat and focus solely on the health, welfare and restructuring any designated third world impoverished country we should see great accomplishments comparable to…

1.1 An understanding of the positive values of equality, respect for diversity and inclusion in care work is paramount and the importance of it never underestimated. Circumstances, which bring individuals into contact with support workers/carers by very nature, would suggest that the recipients of that care are likely to be vulnerable in one way or another. Inevitably, whilst caring for others and engaging with them about situations about their lives often involves some exercise of power, which has potential to be misused and abused. How the care/support worker understands and approaches the responsibility of their role will have a direct impact on either increasing equality and getting rid of discrimination and disadvantage, or helping to reinforce, perpetuate or even increase inequality, discrimination and disadvantage. It is argued that discrimination is often made worse unwittingly and arises from ignorance, insensitivity or common beliefs that are not challenged. Discrimination has no place in care contexts. The role of the care manager is promoted as a key organisational value. Raising staff awareness about equality, diversity and inclusion, encouraging debate and devising strategies of care that empower rather than the opposite are essential features of the manager’s role.…

I work in the care industry and have clients and honour other people’s religion or non religion that I look after that have had a totally different upbringing that myself. Some of these clients have dementia, I was raised in a different country with different beliefs. I had a traumatic upbringing but I cannot ever let my clients know about what my beliefs and life experiences are about. I through my experience with working in this environment have learnt that I have had to research other religions and beliefs and have learnt to respect all people and their beliefs. Prayers are a daily thing for me even though this was not taught to me in my earlier years. Religion affects people in many different ways mainly because we all come from different backgrounds and were all taught differently. It is therefore very important to respect and honour their personal beliefs. Some want to go to church on Sundays and others do not want to speak about church at all and I must respect the fact that they do not want to speak about anything about the Church. It is part of the work that I do to make sure my clients are happy and therefore am conscious at all times that they feel comfortable about anything they want to talk to me about.…

Everyone has different values, beliefs and personal experiences. What you believe in, what you see as important and what you see as acceptable or desirable is an essential part of who you are. The way in which you respond to people is linked to what you believe in, what you consider important and what interests you. You may find you react positively to people who share your values and less warmly to people who have different priorities. When you develop friendships, it is natural to spend time with people who share your interests and values. However, the professional relationships you develop with people you support are another matter. As a professional, you are required to provide the same quality of support for all, not just for those who share your views and beliefs. This may seem obvious, but knowing what you need to do and achieving it successfully are not the same thing. Working in the care sector, you are bound to come across service users and colleagues whose views you do not agree with, and who never seem to understand your point of view. Awareness of differences, your reaction to them and how they affect the way you work is a crucial part of personal and professional development. If you allow your own preferences to dominate your work with people, you will fail to perform to the standards of the Codes of Practice for care workers set out by the UK regulating bodies. All the codes require care workers to respect and promote people’s individual views and wishes. .Everyone has their own values, beliefs and preferences. It is recognition of who we are and what we believe in. Your value, belief and experiences may not be the same as others. The way you work, the things you believe in and the way you think can be different from others. However, you may have come across service users and colleagues whose view or method of work you do not agree with or they never seem to understand your view. It is the crucial part of your practice how you react to the…

Since leaving home some odd twenty-four years I have stuck with many things I was trained. I have also changed a lot of them as well. The major question asked of this informal essay was: Will my values cloud my responsibilities as a Social Worker? My answer would be no. I will have to take my blinders off and think outside of the box. I have to evolve with the changing times or I will be left behind. Regardless of my feelings towards having a traditional families. My ultimate value is working to serve families in need and helping those who want or seek my help. This also extends to those who are handed to me in a folder against their…

Growing up, my parents pushed me to be the best I could be. They let me make mistakes and used them as teachable moments. They taught me the importance of work ethic, reliability, and trustworthiness. Being reliable and trustworthy is important in both personal and work relationships. They also taught me to be kind. I strive to be kind to everyone, and treat them with respect. I try look at situations from someone else's point of view. We never know what is going on in someone else's life, so I feel it is better to treat them with kindness and respect versus being rude or disrespectful. If someone is having a bad day, I don't want to make it any worse. As I got older, I came to the quick realization that not everyone's views are the same. My parents taught me to accept people for who they are and not to hold it against them when they have do not have the same views as I do. One thing we all have in common is that we are human. We should treat each other with the respect and dignity that we would like to be treated with.…
