If I was an entrepreneur I will create an online shopping marketplace of fashion clothing, accessories and products for older adult women. As people grow older, whether you are short or tall, fat or skinny,…
I agree with Gerontologists about Baby Boom shaping America’s culture, economics, and politics in the years ahead because they are the heads of important businesses, governments, and educational institution. They have experience on some of important issues that is facing the countries politics and economic. Baby Boomers will continue to shape America because when they retire most of the economy will drain the upcoming years because they will need more social security and they won’t work…
The Baby Boom is a demographic phenomenon that occurred after the Second World War, from 1946 to 1965. In fact, about eight million Canadian people were born in this period, causing economic, social, cultural, and political changes in each stage of their growing process (Statistics Canada, 2013). Currently, Baby Boomers have started to approach the last stages of their lifespan, reaching formal retirement from work and therefore an increase in leisure time (Cavanagh and Wendy, 2012). In fact, provinces as Ontario and Alberta, as well as, cities as Toronto and Vancouver will experience some of the effects of their retirement, specially in areas such as senior centres, public services, the organization of companies,…
This number will more than double to over 70 million in only forty years, and the age group 85 and older will triple in the same time period. Huge differences between racial and ethnic groups exist with minority groups having shorter life spans at birth. A demographic cross over effect also exists in which minority older adults who have survived to age 85 are as or more likely to live into their 9th decade as their white counterparts. Demographics within racial and ethnic groups as a whole are also changing, and minorities are starting to make up greater percentages of the older adult population as the world ages.…
In 1945, World War II came to an end and the soldiers returned to their homes in America. The young men began to get jobs, find partners and marry, and start a family with them. This had all happened during the same time and caused birth rates in America to sky rocket. Over 76 million babies were born between 1946 and 1964 and this generation is known as the “Baby Boomers.” According to author Paula Schleis, “They have lived through at least six decades, straddling two centuries and two millenia” (Schleis). This means that they have lived through many big and important events in history and some even took part in those historical events. This generation of babies makes up nearly twenty-five percent of today's U.S population…
Having children was considered one of their duties. Women in the New England Colonies were married by the time they were in their early twenties. By the time women were in their early forties most of them had six or seven children. Some households had as many as fifteen children. In fact, the high number of pregnancies contributed to a twenty percent death rate in mothers during childbirth, (Conforti 63). After 1750, farm sizes shrank in long-settled communities and couples had decided to have less children. The average household had four children.…
Baby Boomers is term that use for the people who was born in the Baby Boom between 1940 and 1960 after World War II.They have often found difficult ways to manage their time and money due to their parents live more and their children want the best education. "And in the end it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." The words of Abraham Lincoln describe the accomplishments by the Baby Boomers perfectly. The Baby Boom drastically changed Canadian society forever. The Baby Boom was a period after World War 2 where there was a huge increase in birthrate. Canada had social reforms, new music genres, and a changed economy. As many of the Boomers are retiring, their contributions have not been forgotten.…
The cause of the baby boom was essentially the great depression because numerous Canadians enrolled in the military. Canadians want to make a quick buck and not expecting to fight for years. Canadians went to battle for six years without women and when soldiers returned from the war they had an urge for intercourse with their girlfriends or wives and that’s what started the baby boom. The next generation would need to produce more consumer items and build more houses due to the sheer number of baby boomers, more power and water would also be required to run those homes. Therefore with these new demands we need to open more jobs to satisfy those demands. The baby boomer generation is even effecting us now, 66 years later. They are going to soon influence skill trades in Canada because the baby boomers in those jobs are near retirement. There is going to be a shortage of people to fill those jobs; especially because of parents wanting their children to go to university, therefore not getting a job in the skill trades. Many jobs like caregivers for example will require more people because of the sudden increase in elderly citizens. We are also going to need to pay for the baby boomer’s healthcare and security income and that will come from our taxes. Canada could be in trouble for the future because we don’t have the people to fill…
People who are between these ages has the most impact when it comes to work, tax paying, buying houses, and growing the population.. Canada's overall population would be decreasing rapidly without them. With Canada’s natural population; we would not survive, because we wouldn’t be enough to maintain economic growth, and welfare.…
The show Baby Boomers in America is basically an infomercial that airs on the Lifetime Network once a week for thirty minutes, and it is entirely geared towards the baby boomer population. During that time, the host (Morgan Fairchild) discusses specific topics that are related to both the physical and cognitive changes that occur during middle adulthood. Each topic features a product or service that is available for purchase and is relevant to the developments that occur during middle adulthood and the challenges they may cause the target audience in an effort to empower the baby boomer consumers. This show explores each of the areas that is described in our book (health, intelligence, work, etc.): for example there are episodes on staying…
According to the most recent census numbers, there are now 78 million Americans who were born between 1946 and 1964. By 2030 the youngest members of the baby boom generation will be at least 65, and the number of older adults 65 years and older in the United States is expected to be more than 70 million, or almost…
During the Great Depression the marriage rate fell as uncertainty over economic conditions caused people to postpone decisions that would significantly affect their lives. Birthrates also dropped: pessimism shrouded Americans' expectations of a promising future for themselves and their children. After World War II ended, however, prospects seemed considerably brighter. Young Americans returned home from war in 1945 ready to reap the benefits of victory and a prospering economy. Accordingly, there were almost 2.3 million marriages in 1946, an increase of more than six hundred thousand over the previous year. Many of these newlyweds had children within a year: a record 3.8 million babies were born in 1947. This was the first year of the baby boom, which lasted for most of the 1950s. Between 1948 and 1953 more babies were born than had been over the previous thirty years. In 1954 a record birthrate, a low death rate, and an influx of 144,000 immigrants created the largest one-year population gain in U.S. history. (Thomson Gale)…
Perhaps the greatest trend in population makeup and statistics is the increase in the age group known as baby boomers. This demographic unit is comprised of individuals born between 1946 and 1964 and has seen the most significant growth of any class in the last 80 years (). The rate of growth between 1900 and 2010 for this class was .74% every ten years, however, according to projections based on census data, that rate of growth is expected to increase to nearly 3% year; a this speed, it is estimated that 20% of our total population will be senior citizens, over the age of 65 ().…
Due to overpopulation, there have been significant changes in the medical field with anaesthetics, artificial hearts and vaccinations. It is inevitable that new discoveries and inventions will continue to be made. The future advancements in medicines will result in a massive decrease in death rates, for example the treatment of cancer will change and there will be a way to be cured faster. The average life span for a person was once just forty years but with all the medical improvements that number now hovers around sixty to seventy years old (World Development Indicators). It may sound ludicrous but is it impossible for that number to one day eclipse one hundred? The citizens from the “baby boom” are aging and entering their senior years, which will demand a lot of medical attention. With medicines still improving, these senior citizens will receive amazing health care to keep…
