Blown to bits chapter 8
At the beginning of chapter 8, Bits in the Air,Old Metaphors, New Technologies, and Free speech, of the novel Blown to Bits they discussed the FCC gaining the authority to regulate the content that is broadcasted on the radio. Later as the nations technology progressed the television overtook the radio in popularity and the FCC tried to regulate the new public broadcasting system that had been created. In 1978 a Supreme Court case I was concurred that the government had a special interest in protecting the people from malicious content being broadcasted. The chapter showed me that The creation of communication pathways is not simple. In addition it displayed the creation of communication pathways is not always perceived well. Finally there is the issue of the regulation of communication pathways which was seen in the chapter. There was the creation and explanation of two important communication pathways in this chapter. They partially explained the creation of the many communication pathways. They explained that every successful pathway is a spectrum rather than grid or a line. This allows for infinite movement and communication within the system. I agree with this statement there is a necessity amongst platforms for communication that it is a spectrum. There was immediate backlash for certain broadcasting platforms. The internet was so hard dot regulate by the FCC so it was portrayed as a lawless place with malicious content all over it. This lack of acceptance I think is a downfall of society a non willingness to accept this new communication method is a show of weakness of society and the gullibleness of the people.
The FCC regulates the media sources of the United States of America. The regulate the radios and television of america. They ensure that there is not any malicious content being broadcasted to the American public. The FCC wished to censor the internet after they successfully censored television and radio. I think this is ridiculous the purpose of the internet is to be able to communicate and transfer information of any sort or any kind between people. This regulation would destroy the purpose of the internet. It is up to the user to decide whether or not something is malicious content not the
