Boo Radley Journals
Journal #1: Dear Diary, I feel so trapped in this house, I haven’t been able to leave this place for years now. I am still currently living my brother Nathan Radley and he makes me feel like this house is hell. He won’t let me out or do anything fun around the house. I feel like a prisoner inside my own house. There is no hope of excitement in this house, absolutely nothing to do at all. My neighbors down the street, these two kids named Jem and Scout think I’m some kind of dangerous killer and I have no idea where they got that information from but they do seem pretty interested in me. I don’t know exactly why there interested in me but I am going to find out why and I hope I can become friends with them soon. Im just a stranger to everyone because I haven’t stepped out of these doorsteps in years and I hope Jem and Scout don’t keep that same impression upon me. Even though Jem and Scout think I am a psycho I am going to be really nice and help them out when they need it.

Journal #2:

Dear Diary, There is this knothole in front on my house by some tree, so I thought It would be a smart idea to put two pieces of gum inside so Jem and Scout could find it. I thought it was a good idea because all kids love gum don’t they. I just hope they spot it and find it or else it will just sit there and will be of no use. This could be my first chance to impress the kids even though they don’t know its me. I hope my brother Nathan doesn’t find out that I’m sneaking out of this house to do this because I’m not supposed to. Yesterday I heard Jem run out and hit my door, they got scared and ran away right away. I wish I could have came outside and said something but you know I couldn’t. So instead I just looked through my window. But there was this kid with them that I never seen before, a short chubby boy waiting with Scout. Even though I feel guilty about sneaking out last night I hope Jem and Scout find the gum.

Journal #3:

Dear Diary, Yes the gum

During the fire at Miss Maudie’s house, Scout and Jem, unknowingly, was given a blanket to keep warm. When the Finches plus Miss Maudie return to their home, Scout asks who she should thank for the blanket. Jem proceeded to answer that it was most likely Boo Radley’s doing. This starts a confliction between Scout and her beliefs. Scout has always thought of Boo Radley through the mind of a child, a story that stole her attention. But when she witnessed Boo Radley doing something kind and thoughtful, she found herself shocked and unbelieving. “My stomach turned to water and I nearly threw up when Jem held out the blanket and crept toward me.” (Lee 96). At this moment, Scout realized how real and human Boo Radley and altered her view of the man.…

Throughout Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, Scout had been very judgemental and terrified of Arthur “Boo” Radley. Later on in the story Scout realized to never judge a book by its cover because you will never know who the person really is. Many assert that Atticus Finch is the hero in the novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird,” by, “Harper Lee,” but I respectfully disagree with that and believe the true hero is Boo Radley. Throughout the book, “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Boo Radley was secretive and reticent, although, he had multiple encounters of being heroic. Boo Radley additionally, is somebody portrayed as a mad man. Scout, Jem, and Dill was told that Boo (allegedly), defiantly stuck scissors into the leg of his repressive father. When the children heard about that, they reluctantly tried to find out more information about Boo. By the end of the novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Boo is distinguished more as a hero to the children, rather than a shadow of a dreadful person. I conceive…

The story started when one night I snuck out of my house to go to a party, as a result, that night I slept over at a friend’s house and found a ride home the next morning. When the car pulled into the driveway the morning after, I thanked the driver and walked up to my front porch with a sly smile to greet my obviously frustrated parents. As my mom ushered me to sit down on one of the chairs on our front porch, I know that nothing good is going to…

It was settled, the Johnsons were relocating to Bellingham, Washington; since Papa cannot sustain the work in the country. John liked the idea of moving to the city, but Hilda and Lois were not so thrilled. Their house in Bellingham was modern, and John was delighted. From the window, you could see the magnificent Mount Baker. Papa and Hilda started talking about how Mount Baker was like God, making John feel awkward. The girls were a bit worried going to school even with John’s encouragement. After class, John’s classmate, Marvin, led him to the railroad tracks where he got him to smoke a cigarette brought by a fifth-grader named Pete. As they parted, John ran home in dismay, anxious that his parents might find out. When he got home, John saw Mama chopping down some onions, so he ate a piece to take the smell of the cigarette out. John felt guilty for smoking, but thought that at least he did something to please his father by chopping down some wood.…

This is my first contribution to Charleston Moms Blog and in the interest of full disclosure, my eight-year-old ran away today. Yup. He packed a cooler with a box of gluten-free granola bars, four apples and two 20 oz Nalgene bottles of water. (At least he was thinking healthy.) He then put it in a rolling suitcase to make the journey easier. I found him, out of our neighborhood, a little while later. He looked a bit relieved, jumped in the car, and asked, “Mom, do you think this was idiotic?” To which I replied, “Wellll, I think you needed a better plan.” But I think I was talking to myself.…

To make some conversation, my parents had asked Pablo how he was doing at school. While telling us about his classes, he started to talk about several accounts where his classmate’s “stupidity” was clearly visible. At this time, my brother Alejandro turned the conversation into a competition by saying that those stories were nothing compared to some of the things that his classmates did at his school. While my parents were trying to stop the competition, I was just eating my food quietly. When I finished my food and stood up to clear away my plate, I responded to both of my brothers. I said that “there will always be stupid people doing stupid things wherever you go. It doesn’t matter what age you are. It’s the way that the world works. Look, you two are doing it right now with this conversation.” I definitely got my point across and shut them up. My parents were so astonished that all they could do was stare at me. Once I was halfway up the stairs, my parents burst out laughing and called me back to the table. They asked me why I said that, and I responded that “it was true”. This just made them laugh harder. When I asked why they were laughing, they said that they had never seen this side of me, and that they had just realized that I was a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Out of all the ways that I have heard people describe me, this is the only description that rings inside my head. I believe that it describes me…

So much has happened since you’ve left Maycomb. Jem and I misses you so much especially me. If only you were here with us you would know the entire story from what has happened to me and Jem. But since you’re not here I’m going to tell you what it was about. Well, it all started out with the Halloween pageant and I was dressing up as a ham. It was so hot inside that costume and I wasn’t comfortable with what I was wearing. Then the bad things started during the pageant when I was supposed to wait for my signal for me to go out on stage, and I missed it! I was so mad at myself and I didn’t want anybody to see me the rest of the night. Then me and Jem were crossing the schoolyard and as we were walking home, we heard some feet rustling behind us. We thought it was Cecil Jacobs, but we figured out it wasn’t him at all. Jem and I started to get panic when every time we go, the feet would go, and then the feet would stop. But here’s where the scariest part started. One time we stopped and the feet did not stop, so then Jem told me to run and I ran as fast as I could. It turns out someone was trying to attack us! First, someone came after me but couldn’t really get me since my costume was in the way. I was trying to look for Jem but it was really dark that I can’t find him. Someone rolled against me and I felt Jem, as he got on top of ‘em. And then the man has rung Jem like a chicken! Then I saw someone get on top of the other man, but I couldn’t tell who it was. I started to look for Jem again and there was no answer but the man’s heavily breathing. The man was walking heavily toward the road so then I made my way along to where I thought it was the way out of the road. Then I saw this man carrying Jem crossing our front yard. By the time I got to our house, Jem was in his bed looking like he was sleeping. I asked Atticus if he was dead, but Atticus said he wasn’t that Jem was just unconscious. Atticus told Mr. Heck Tate to go back outside…

There are many poets out there that I enjoy reading. Heinrich Heine would have to be one of them. All of him poems are considered among the best in German literature. Not only do I consider his writings remarkable, he is thought this way by many. You can tell by his writings that his career is in the later Romantic Movement and the era of the socially and politically conscious movement. His writings as well as his exile from Germany demonstrates his lifelong search for personal and national identity. His back ground is definitely noticeable through his writings. His education background included training in both Hebrew and Jesuit schools. They say that his double disappointment in life was the theme for many of his early writings.…

On a seemingly normal, stress-free, fall day, I found myself walking through The Village of Rochester Hills. It goes without saying that writing was one of the last things on my mind as I was shopping. However, as things seem to do, my priorities were about to drastically change. As I was attacked by three teenage boys, my world began to spin. I was knocked out by one single blow to the side of my face. As I opened my eyes I saw the boys leaving me on the pavement of the parking lot. After a moment, I realized that my purse and all of my belongings had been taken. There and then was when I realized how important writing can really be. I instantly ran into the closest store and began writing down all I could recall about the incident. Filling the paper with descriptions of the boys’ clothes, hair, faces, the van they left in, and even their voices, I wracked my brain for all the information I had.…

As I step off the yellow school bus, I looked up at the big, brown brick elementary school. Kids were everywhere. I was excited. The night before, I could hardly sleep. I kept getting up every five minute, afraid I might oversleep. I felt like the big man on campus, but in reality, I was the little man on campus. I was about six years old and so tiny among the older children. I was taken to the cafeteria, where all the kids were to find their teachers and walk to their homerooms as a class. I found my teacher. She was a middle-aged Caucasian woman with blonde hair. Her name was Ms. Bishop. She was nice. The bell rung and we walked in a single file line to our classroom for the next couple months.…

As I sat there, playing, the door suddenly banged open. My mom stood there anxiously with fear in her chocolaty eyes. I knew something tragic had occurred for she never came home early. She grabbed my forearms and pulled me up with a jolt and snatched a plastic bag from the corner and stuffed what little clothes and toys I had in it. My own brown eyes were filled with tears, but I didn’t let them fall. She dragged me along as she moved and on her way out, she shut the door with a thunderous bang. Who would have thought that that was the last day I would ever see that little one room garage house again.…
