Case Study Of Mines Safety
In a ground level case study it was found that it was a fog covered and extremely cold morning of January 10, 2010.The maximum of workmen were on rest as it was a pleasant Sunday. And the workmen whose Sunday duty was allotted were on the duty as it was a day of Inspection visit of the extreme high Powered regulatory authority for Mines Safety, the Directorate General of Mines Safety.
Parallel to this maximum key Executive, the representatives of major trade unions and the Safety experts were busy in collection and arranging the reports and suggestions to scrutinize the final draft to be presented at the desk of Safety Board to be held on January 21, 2010.

In corresponding to this the GM Chairperson, Katras Area, was keeping a regular watch for health of Mr Laldhari Bhuian.
It was January 18,2010, Mr Laldhari Bhuian’s right hand was decided to be separated by surgery by the Doctors. After an operation of more than 6 hours the surgery was successful and finally he was certified to be out of danger by the Doctors. Meanwhile GM Chairperson, Katras Area,was asked a bunch of pressurized questions by media as well as from a few trade unions too. But he GM Chairperson, Katras Area, remained calm and silent in a decent manner, and didn’t spoke a single word on the investigation report as per Company Protocols.
By next 72 hours the extremely high powered authority, Safety Board’s meeting started on January 21,2010 and the single focus was to question GM Chairperson, Katras Area, on issues of safety responsibilities. After almost maximum person have charged GM for being non-vigilant on the safety issue.

At this extreme crucial time Mr. R.S. Tiwari who is Dy. General Secretary for Jharkhand State of AITUC and also the member of Safety board of the B.C.C.L. company; addressed the Public meeting by speaking that “ The duty performed by our Respected GM Chairperson Katras Area is “respectable”, “appreciable”, “and an model example to be followed by all of us”. Mr. Tiwari continued “As Half truth is more dangerous than lie, for the same I am explaining the complete fact. I saw GM Chairperson running on the accident spot driving his duty jeep self, immediately he got the wireless message. And before the ambulance may arrive the workmen along with GM Chairperson escorted Shri.Laldhari Bhuian upto hospital. Always a first-aid box is always ready in all duty vehicles of BCCL Company.”
At the same time many of our peer colleagues also came and driver took the steering to drive the car but I saw GM giving the initial first aid as ointments and pain-killer and also Mr Laldhari Bhuian was laying in unconscious stage in lap of GM while moving to the hospital, due to which life of Mr Laldhari Bhuian has been saved”.
Mr Tiwari Continued “Due to strict implementation of the policy of the “Safety Talk” being exercised everyday by orders of GM Katras Area our family member Mr. Bhuian has been saved”.
