Into the Wild Essay

Growing up we are told by our parents to reach the ultimate level of education and become doctors, lawyers, scientist, and other high paying jobs. However, a man by the name of Christopher Johnson Mccandless was different than the average person, he decided to go on an adventure, which ultimately led to his death. Chris Mccandless was an outgoing, antisocial individual who traveled to the wild in search of the meaning of life. Chris was trying to find the meaning of life by pursuing a life of adventure, escaping his poor relationship with his parents, and living without materialistic views of society.

Chris Mccandless and the Mccandless family had a crooked relationship, of course no family is perfect but the Mccandless family’s relationship plays a huge part in why Chris isolated himself from their presence. Chris father Walt Mccandless was living a double life between two families. Walt was married to a woman named Marcia before he met his wife Billie. Marcia and Walt had two daughters together named Shelly and Shawna, Walt then moved to Virginia and met Billie his wife to this day. Billie and Walt had two kids Chris and Carine Mccandless. While Walt was with Billie he was also still married to Marcia and he traveled back and forth to both households having affairs with both of the women. It wasn’t until Chris went on his adventure and talked to Marcia about his father that Chris found out that his father was living this ‘double life’. This news from Marcia really set it off for Chris he was so upset with his father, but he kept it to himself until he decided to cut ties with his parents.Inside the households the children would witness many counts of domestic violence from their father, Walt.
