I will be raising some differences and some similarities between college athletics and professional athletics and show how each pertains to social and individual obligations. I would like to first talk about some advantages of being a college athlete.…
Baseball is a sport that is known around the world. Lacrosse is not as popular, but it is still a fun game to play. Although baseball and lacrosse are very different they have some similarities.…
Jeremy's paper is about college athletes, and how they should not be paid. His thesis is "The National Collegiate Athletic Association should not give in to growing pressure because college athletes should not be paid". The paper makes a value of belief. The author believes that what the NCAA is doing is correct, by not paying athletes at college level.…
The NFL and NCAA football have lots of things in common, but I like to lean toward the NFL for being better to watch. The National Football League (NFL) was founded in 1920, and only two teams currently in the NFL is the Decatur Stanleys now the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cardinals now the Arizona Cardinals. College football was founded on November 6, 1869, and it’s played by student athletes. They both have their good and bad with the rules but I love how the NFL rules are played out. It’s a difference how the players are ruled down in the leagues. To be ruled down in the NFL the runner must have been touched any sort of way by the opposing team. In college a player is down whenever any part of his body other than his hands or his feet…
What are some differences you’ve seen when comparing college and high school sports and programs?…
College sports is a huge Multi-Million dollar business. Being such means Millions of dollars are spent every year updating stadiums, training facilities and other areas, all for the “amateur” athletes. But what makes someone an amuture and a pro? Is it money? It’s definitely not training because the argument is there that College players train just as much or harder than the Pros. So I will assume it is the the money that makes a difference. Money is overflowing in areas like Football, and Basketball and although the athletes benefit in one way, said athletes still deserve to be paid for what they do.…
The notion of paying college athletes has been an ongoing and controversial debate for student-athletes, coaches, schools, media and most certainly the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Many would argue that playing major college sports is more like a job versus an extracurricular activity. As with the majority of many student athletes, some attend college with the aspiration of becoming professional players thereby college is seen as a means to end. Although student-athletes already receive compensation via full and partial scholarships to participate at the college level, passionate conversations will continue to be a topic of debate because of the enormous revenue generated by college sports.…
Many compare the National Football League (NFL) with college football but the two are not extremely similar and should never be compared. Yes, besides a few minor rule changes the NFL and college football are the same game; but there is much more to football then the rules. College football is better than the NFL for a wide variety of reasons. First, there exists more passion in college football all around the sport. Passion cannot be measured in anyway but can be observed and understood by the fans, coaches, and sports community. Players care more about the game and less about money, while the fans have great passion for the university they attend or attended. The lack of an influence money has on the game is admirable. Also, tradition is so vast in college football a game day experience cannot be compared with those of the NFL. The special rivalry games and in stadium events makes college football great. Rivalries, passion, playing rules, and timing are few of the reasons why college football is better than the NFL. Along with great activities like tailgating, the wonderful scheduling, the entertainment, and the comeback friendly rules college football has the best case for why it is levels above the NFL.…
Being an American means you have freedom, freedom to watch whatever you want and go anywhere you want. College football in America is on the rise and will soon eclipse the National Football League. Usatoday.com states that college football playoff tv ratings were up 24% this year and with the possible expansion of the 4 team playoff, they could double in the coming years. Approximately 68.4% of Americans are attending college or university, most are low on money but are overflowing with school spirit, this is why college football will soon be superior to the NFL.…
players. They are not. If the National College Athletic Association or NCAA changed their rules,…
Professional athletes and college athletes are two amazing groups of people. Professional athletes and college athletes have so much in common yet many things that are different as well. They both have an elaborate amount of detail in their life including: lifestyle, work ethics, self-motivation and many more that describe them as who they are as a player and as a human in every-day life.…
College athletes are not forced into playing the sport that they have devoted their time to during their years in secondary education. They continue to play into the college level for their love of the game. And for this, many college athletes are offered full scholarships. Today 's tuition for many schools are so expensive that without the scholarships that some of the students receive, they would not be able to attend college at all. For these students, college sports offer a great outlet to obtain an education that otherwise would not have been available for them. This allows them opportunity to study something that they can use to build a better life for themselves and their families.…
Really, the only difference between college athletics and professional athletics is that college athletes are not paid. If the NCAA decides to start paying these athletes, then college sports would turn into professional sports. Also, paying these college athletes cash could lead to an increase in unsportsmanlike conduct among athletes, as we often see in the pros (Sturgill). An increase in unsportsmanlike conduct is something that most people would not like to see happen.…
There is a lot of controversy over the college athlete and their role in the NCAA’s revenue lately. Students who play at the college level are considered student-athletes. The “student” is put in the front for a reason because in college you should concentrate on your academics and your career you are pursuing. Granted a student could come through college with a career playing the sport of their choice. To be successful at the sport they choose though they have to spend a lot of time at it, more time than studying for final exams even. As a student in college it should be a priority to get keep your grades up. As an athlete in college you are labeled as having amateur status not professional.…
The notion that college sports leave nonparticipants at a disadvantage is baseless and flat out wrong. The incoming revenue that the players generate is attained by the university, which uses that capital to better the education of everyone, including nonparticipants.…
