On April, 16, 2007 Virginia Tech went through a crisis that they won’t ever forget. During the morning of April, 16 a tragedy occurred in two separate attack. The first attack started at 7:15 am in the campus of Blacksburg, VA. At that time two people got killed in the dormitory. The second attack occurred two and a half hour later across campus. During the second attack the killer wounded 17 people and end up killing 31 people including taking his own life.
The Virginia Tech shooter was Seung-Hui Cho in his early 20’s. Cho had a record of mental disorder, as a teenager as well as a college student. Cho was accused of stalking two female students and was declared mentally ill by a Virginia special justice. Even, thou despite the attack it was never known Cho motive to commit such massacre.
Virginia fails to provide the student with information regarding the tragedy events that was taking place in campus. They fail to provide the student safety. The university did not evacuate the campus or notify the student of that attack until several hours later.
In such crisis situation like this one is there to believe that the right people need to have the right information as soon as possible in order to react. In the Virginia Tech it seems like the officer and the school security didn’t have the right information to have the campus evacuate. They needed to have authority to declare it a crisis, and a system in place to get the message out quickly and thoroughly.
Some of the students and staff at Virginia Tech are saying the administration didn’t do enough to warn them that a murderer might be loose on campus. A two hour delay after an on-campus shooting does seem slow, given the widespread use of portable communications devices among police and campus security forces.
