dedicated to success
Dedication applies in all aspects of life sports, school, and careers. Nothing in life that is worth having is ever easy and one has to work hard for what they want. Without the dedication to something, a person will never succeed. Having dedication means: being disciplined enough to make ones self workout even when life is stressful and exhausting, being able to block out all those people that say “you cant do it,“ and having the ability to get up after falling and keep working to achieve ones goals. When a person is truly dedicated, they don’t care about the parties, or going out with their friends. They don’t care about sleeping in; they will stay at the gym and go ass to the grass in squats until they can’t think straight. Every athlete strives to be the best they can be, but dedication plays a key role in being the best. Vince Lombardi considered by many to be the greatest coach that Football has ever seen says “the price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand and the determination that whether we win or lose we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.” A dedicated athlete puts everything they have into perfecting their craft. They always put forth one hundred and ten percent before and after practice. Athletes achieve their success knowing they put in years of hard work to attain it. For instance, Michael Jordan was cut from his high school varsity basketball team. Motivated to prove his worth, Jordan became the star of Laney high school’s junior varsity team, and played several forty point games. With dedication, he worked hard earned a spot on the varsity roster and then went on to play college basketball for North Carolina. After being drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the 1984 NBA draft, Jordan quickly became a fan favorite and was voted 1985 Rookie of the Year. Striving to be the best Jordan would stay after practice, play on the weekends, and work in the off season to get better. Game 5 or what has come to be

As the years moved on Jordan took interest in other sports. He played basketball. He worked so hard that he decided to make the change to basketball. He tried out for his high school basketball team as a sophomore but did not make it. The coach cut him believing that Michael did not have enough experience and that he was too raw. Michael stated that it was embarrassing to not get a place on the team. Distressed, he refused to surrender himself (Brenner, Richard J 2). Michael began training continuously, constantly working on what he felt would make him a better basketball player, and he strived to prove his coach wrong. Every time he exercised and grew tired, assuming he should stop, he would shut his eyes and picture that roster without his name on it. This would empower him again making him stronger than before. Two years passed and he was a high school All-American (Brenner, Richard J 3). He had done what he felt…

This Basketball player was possibly the most devoted one to his game. When he was cut from the varsity team as a sophomore in college he stated, “I was angry, hurt, embarrassed, and ticked off, I spent that whole next summer in the gym working to get better. I had something to prove to myself.”(Looss, 25) Michael was very intense at practices. He made sure everyone gave it their all, or else he would push them around and talk trash to them. He remarked that he didn’t do it because that was who he was, but because he got very annoyed with people who came onto the court thinking it’s just a game or who simply thought that they were too good for the competition. Michael constantly worked on his game. An example of his constant training was when a photographer for the book Rare Air, called him at 9:30 in the evening and he was still lifting weights for the playoffs since earlier that day. Jordan admits that the influence of his parents, James and Delores, was the most important factor in helping him to achieve stardom. From them, he derived his renowned work ethic and inherited the competitiveness that had helped him to succeed.(Clary, 11) Jordan was not only dedicated to the sport, but to his physical health. He was once quoted saying; “I don’t mind administering machines or medicines to my body if it gets me ready to play. But I won’t . And I won’t take shots to cover the pain. I’ll do all the necessary work to help the healing process.”(Looss,…

You earn recognition, all your playing time, and a starting position through hard work. I grew up playing all kinds of different sports. I played baseball, football and later in life I started to swim competitively. In each case, I had to learn to take the responsibility to do my part—for myself and for my teammates. Practice was mandatory and took priority over other interests of mine. This was hard for me, since I missed out on school dances, family activities and other fun events because I had to be at practice everyday. It also forced me to learn good time management skills as I started to balance school, a social life, daily two-hour practices and games on the weekends. The coaches can only teach so much and, while they tried, couldn’t force me to learn my plays or study in my off time. I knew my hard work was paying off when my coach would say, “Good job Gunnar, I’m proud of you!” That one sentence made me realize that my hard work had paid off and that I should continue to work even harder, not only in sports but also in everything I…

Having dedication to me is being a productive worker with incomparable effort. I believe that I possess this quality. I have learned from two hard working parents how to be a dependable, responsible person. There was a time that I had a solo concert for the performance center I go to. I was very ill and didn’t think I would be able to make it. With a few prompting words from my parents, and some strong cold medicine, I successfully performed a very difficult song in Italian. It went because I believed that it was my duty to go and perform. It would have been unfair to my vocal coach if I didn’t come, and made an excuse. No matter what, I strive to be committed to excellence and success, because I want to be an excellent and successful person.…
