Disrespect For Authority
Disrespect for authority is at a climax around the globe, which can be seen by multiple police shootings, disrespecting the presidency, and disregarding American traditions. The bare minimum of how we should react to authority is to respect the offices of authority. Obeying, however, is a fundamental part of being under authority because "leaders" who have no one obeying them are not an authority. Obeying authority comes when you respect the person themselves, the office they obtain, and agreeing with the validity of their wishes. God planted the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, only to give the option for humans to disobey Him. If God hadn’t given an outlet for Adam and Eve to sin, then obeying God would’ve meant nothing. The word authority is a neutral term, although deemed as both negative and positive depending on …show more content…
I personally do not respect either candidate because of their arrogance and ignorance, but despite my disposition, I have respect for the office. The Presidency of the United States is the most esteemed position in the world, and it deserves respect from everyone. Despite using only examples of governmental authority thus far, there are many types of authority. Anyone who has dominance over me in some aspect of my life are my authority: government, church officials, education administrators, and parents. As a Christian, God has authority over me and every other authority. I also find authority in the Bible since it is inspired by God and given by God as a means of teaching and reproof (2 Timothy 3:16). The topic of authority ties with our first journal entry about how faith and intellect intertwine, in that intellect is the ground which we build our faith on.     This was a trait of strong family structure. In most societies of the time there was extreme intolerance to anyone who had differing points of view. For instance in England it was against the law to publicly criticize the King or parliament officials (Brinkley, 13th ed.).
