Elementary Education Personal Statement
I have selected Elementary Education as my chosen field of study while attending college. This choice was greatly dependent on my love for children and education. As an elementary school child, my favorite pastime was playing “school.” This passion for education has never left me. I received the opportunity to be a teacher’s assistant during my senior year. This program allows me to spend a period in an elementary classroom, assisting the teacher for an hour each day. This experience has given me a renewed excitement to gain a greater knowledge of education, in order to hold a position in this field. My love for education has not been limited to school, but also in my own family. My younger sister was born when I was thirteen years old. Through the past five years I have enjoyed watching her grow and learn. The capability a child’s mind has to absorb new experiences and information has truly amazed me. I spend every summer with her and I deeply enjoy working with her, whether it is the alphabet, counting, or jumping, I am proud to have taken a part in her development. …show more content…
Because of my involvement in this program I was offered a chance to speak to junior high students at the state student council conference this fall. Their insightful words and honesty inspired me to work towards a Middle School endorsement, I thoroughly look forward to the chance to teach such a stimulating age group. This is what I’ve been looking forward to since I was a child. I am so excited to begin this journey in Elementary Education. I am eager to make a lasting impact in the field of education and encourage a love of learning to all

Pursuing something new is fun and exciting, especially if the pursuit positively impacts someone else. I am grateful for the opportunity to re-enter grad school, this time at the doctorate level, to realize a dream that I’ve had since the beginning of my teaching career. My goal is to be sharp, skilled, creative and effective as a teacher and leader so that I can significantly influence the organization and overall culture of my school, other teachers, students, and the community. A necessary attribute of a great teacher should be the desire to seek ways to improve learning for all children. I am committed to learning and developing the knowledge and skills that a great leader needs to make a difference in education. I believe all students can have academic success.…

Since I was initially a nursing student when I entered college, I had never considered becoming a teacher. Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted a career where I could serve others, and I always believed that being a nurse would allow me to achieve this goal. Still, I fell in love with the education field the moment I started volunteering and aiding in my aunt's classrooms, which they taught grades TK– 4. I immediately changed my major because it makes me feel extremely fortunate to think that one day I would be able to teach, laugh, and help my kids in the same manner that my aunts do. To begin with, I worked as a student intern, as a tutor for the Advancement Via Individual Determination program for four years.…

Another reason I wish to join Teach For America is because I miss the classroom. As an Education minor in college, I have over 100 hours of in-field experience teaching in the classroom. Since my first field experience in a fifth grade classroom, I have longed to see my own students’ smiles when they understand a concept for the first time or to help them when they become frustrated with a problem they do not think they will be able to solve. During one of my student-teaching experiences, I helped students create their own stories, and seeing the fun that they had creating their own worlds made me realize that teaching was something that I wanted to do in the coming years after.…
