Entertainment has provided society with an escape from reality, which at times may be very stressful and chaotic. Fast entertainment is the center of everyone 's day, maybe its music, television, internet, or your cell phone. We are all seeking and craving entertainment all throughout the day. Entertainment today has become a skyrocket business. Mostly everything in our lives has something to do with entertainment. Certain forms of entertainment have overtaken the lives of society as a whole and it seems all morality has been lost and sucked into this world of entertainment. The question I have been asking myself is, has entertainment taken over society? A lot of people think entertainment is not harming too society in any way, but I have many reasons why I think society could be better if we didn’t rely so much on entertainment. As Craig Watkins writes in the essay, fast entertainment and multitasking in an always-on world, “like fast food, fast entertainment is easy to get, all around us, and typically cheap, but not always good for you.” (Watkins 143)…

I showed up too late to experience his opening acts. When I found myself at the top of the hill, looking down at the stage, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement. The stage was covered with fog, behind an enormous white screen, and there was music playing while we waiting for Kid Cudi to make his entrance. Once the lights turned down, the crowd grew quiet in anticipation.…

    Concert Review

The concert was labeled on youtube as a Bangladesh concert. The musical artists played Indian music, and there didn’t seem to be a composer. Every one just seemed to know how to play together. By being an active listener I learned that different cultures sometimes have very different musical styles. Most musical styles touch on all elements of SHMRGO. It was really neat to see how differently Indian music is put together. It’s obvious that they’re extremely talented musicians because they have to incorporate twice as many notes (semi-tones and quarter-tones) than whats typical to us, and they all did it so well. The type of instruments I think were used were the chordophones sitar, santoor, ektara, and the getnu. Also, I think either a bansuri, a venu, or a fiti was used (aerophones); and I’m almost positive that the dhad was played percussion wise. I think these instruments were played, but there were definitely a lot more instruments played than just these. The mood of concert definitely seemed like it was met to interpret happiness and excitement. As I mentioned, there was no one composer. However, the artists did communicate with each other through body language, and that was really interesting to watch play out.The Bangladesh concert performance was definitely interesting and educational, but for the most part it wasn’t pleasing to my ears, simply because I’m not accustomed to the style of music that was played. I completely respect the music that was played, and I honor that it’s different from the music that I listen to. To be frank, the pieces sounded like organized chaos. However, over it time it may become something I’d listen to for fun. Watching this concert definitely made me curious as to what different cultures think when they hear musical styles that are common to…

American culture has been shaped and influence by visual entertainment in so many ways. Celebrities influence our society every day. In this society celebrities have a large impact on people life. From cars to fashion trends, the way they live, their attractiveness of a celebrity lifestyle, can influence a person behavior and their beliefs. Celebrities even have this weight loss thing going on, as if it’s not ok to be overweight. This often starts at an early age in a kid’s life. My oldest niece is 10 years old and she wants to be like ever young star she sees on TV. She always tells me she can’t eat too much because she doesn’t want to gain too much weight. It’s crazy because she actually sits at the table and pretends as if she isn’t really hungry. She chooses to imitate Hannah Montana. She love her she look up to her as an idol. As a child I looked up to celebrities because they all had big money. Any celebrity you know has a nice car, house, and job. Jennifer Hudson has this commercial for weight watcher where it shows how much weight she has loss. It has gotten me to the point where I want to try losing some weight. The way the celebrities live make you want more in life. I want to make enough money so I can put my boys through college and live comfortable lives were I want have to work all my life. Celebrities influence society in a good and bad way it all depends on how you were raise and were you want to go in life. Like my mother always told her girls “It’s not where you come from in life it were you want to go in life”. In some ways it influences children in a bad way, when they have different movies of artists acting out in a ghetto movie. Some artist plays the dope dealer or the gang banger in a movie. My son love movies like that for some odd reason this type of action gets their attentions. Every time I see him looking at a gangster movie I tell him to turn the TV and put on some cartoon. He…

In the book, Life the Movie: How Entertainment Conquered Reality, Neal Gabler wrote that entertainment is harmful to society. He views entertainment as “fun, effortless, sensational, mindless, formulaic, predictable, and subversive.” While some of his points are valid, others fall flat because the counterargument is not addressed. Entertainment is not harming society in any way. If anything it is bettering society in ways that might not be possible without the existence of entertainment.…

Entertainment has provided society with an escape from reality, which at times may be very stressful and chaotic. The relaxation that entertainment provides is necessary for the overall well being of people. Peace and accord can be found through relaxation, and for many people this is achieved through entertainment. Some entertainment may be damaging to society because it is degrading, and lacks cultural enrichment. As a result, I qualify the assertion that entertainment has conquered reality. I agree in the sense that as the quality of entertainment has declined, so too has the richness of society. I disagree in the sense that entertainment provides society with a diversion from reality, which gives people a respite from the daily anxiety in peoples' lives.…

I think that the main difference between a good film or song and a bad one is the ability for the audience to relate to the content. When the audience can relate to a piece of art from personal experience is when the piece of art can truly be called “artistic”. People don’t want to just listen to a song or see a movie and think that it was cool and fun to watch, but to take something from the art’s material and be able to comprehend the message that is being presented. I think that art is best when it fulfills both categories. I like films and songs that have a good message, applicable to my life, and are also entertaining. I have been watching the show “Breaking Bad” since the first season came out and I have learned a lot more about life in general than I knew before. You watch the protagonist, Walter White, go from an innocent chemistry teacher to a homicidal methamphetamine cook. The show presents many life lessons in very unique ways. I truly love this show because by watching it, I learn a little bit more about myself and different ways to see the world. It is shows like this that can actually be defined as “artistic”; they present a good entertaining story but also incorporate personal experiences that can apply to a broad audience. I have watched movies before that I’ve enjoyed due to the entertainment it presented rather than what I got out of it. Shows like this are not “artistic”, but entertaining. There is a big difference between a film being fun to watch and a film that presents useful material to apply to the outside world.…
