children and young people are regulated in two main ways through the regulation of the individual worker and regulation of the organisation. individuals are checked to ensure they are safe to work with children and young people. the criminal records bureau searches for information on indidvudals to ensure they have not been in trouble with the law for abusing, exploiting or otherwise harming children. many job advertisments ask applicants to provide a CRB check ot undergo one. regulatory councils or bodies regulate all health and social care professionals. these include; general social care council, nursing and midwifery council and general teaching council. all of the medical and associated professions also have their own regulaotry councils. most have a set of standards of good practise that practioners should follow. foster carers also have a set of standard, the UK nationsl standards for foster care, which explain best practise for foster carers, their supervisiors and managaers. these are used to provide an induction frameork for foster care trainging and development. the genereal cosial care council regulate aulaifed social workers, social care workers and social work students on approved degree courses in england. nursing and midwifery coucncil regulates nurses, midwives and spcialist community public health nurses. the general teaching coucil is the profeccional body for teachers, responisble for warding qualified teacher status and regulating teachers. regulating organisations occurs through a focus on good and legal minium standards. regulaotry bodies inspect organisations to ensure that the mimumum standards are upheld. the standards cover things such as mimium staffing levels, the number of qualified staff and the type of qualifications that are acceptable. in the health service, the standards are called the national service framework for childern, young peopl and maternity services. there are five standards in the framework. promting health and
