Observation Summary Report 1 I have conducted my field of experience at Westside Elementary School, second and third grade classroom. The third grade class consists of 20 students. The teacher does not have any aide even though she needs some assistance, because two of her students are falling behind. The sad part about this is that the students have not being diagnosed yet, but they are having a lot of difficulties. The teacher mentioned that by fourth or fifth grade those two students will need to be placed in a special education classroom. The students both have a concentration problem and it causes them to struggle with reading, writing, math, listening, and speaking. The teacher asked me to focus on and help these two students, while observing the rest of the class. On my second day, I went to Mrs. Bellamy’s Classroom; a second grade teacher. In this paper I am detonating the two different teaching styles that I observed, and the way the student are responding. Mrs. Fricke’s Classroom The teacher sent us, Mark and Sebastian to work at a table in the back of the classroom. I think she did that so we would not interfere with the rest of the class. We worked on math and writing. We did not have any problems solving the math questions. Instead the students seemed to be happy that I could help them individually. Both Mark and Sebastian were quiet and respectful. Mark had concentration problems; for example, while we were doing the math assignment that he had from last week, he suddenly wanted to talk about his toys or any other thing but math. Sebastian on the other hand, was quiet and seemed like he has hearing problems. At one point, Mrs. Fricke came to where we were studying and asked how we were doing. She was friendly and kind and treated both students with the same respect and patience. After she took attendance, she addressed that she had taken some privileges away from the students because the students did not picked up their mess after having centers and would not follow instructions that the teacher gave.     Through experiences this class has given me the opportunity to endure, I have learned many things that significant to becoming a teacher. Prior to this class I hadn’t thought much about the things that are important and the work it takes to become a teacher. One thing that really came to surface for me was that patience is absolutely key in teaching to special education students. Patience is important because all students learn at different paces. Other important virtues to go along with being patient are being flexible and open-minded.
