    Nasogastric (NG) tube placement is a common procedure done in pediatric and neonatal patient care settings. However, there is little research that exists in today’s vast amount of medical information that conclusively proves the safest and most accurate way to verify placement. Although there have been several research and antidotal studies done, dating back as early as the 1980’s that have questioned the safety of solely using the auscultation of air in the abdomen to verify correct placement it is still considered the gold standard of practice, and the vast majority of clinical nurses utilize this practice everyday in practice. In 2009, the Pediatric Nursing Journal published an article authored by Michelle Farrington and Cheryl Lang titled, “Nasogastric Tube Placement and Verification in Pediatric and Neonatal Patients.” This article reports an evidence-based practice project using the Iowa Model of Evidence-Based Practice in Midwestern Children’s hospital to implement standards of care and avoid future inconsistencies in nursing practice to provide the best patient outcomes.…

    As a senior, I had the opportunity to job shadow an OB nurse at. During my time in the baby/mother area of Carilion Hospital, I experienced the admission process and discharge process of patients. I observed both mother patients and baby patients being assessed for vitals and given vaccinations. After each assessment was done, I observed my mentor as she put the information into the hospital date base program called “EPIC”. I observed 2 babies getting their hearing screened. I was also able to observe the tasks of a baby photographer, a nutritionist, and a brief consultation with a lactation educator. My mentor allowed me to listen to two heart beats of different babies; one with a murmur, the other without. I helped with simple tasks such as retrieving ice water and drinks and preparing a bed for a patient. My mentor showed me how to analyze the abundance of data on the main computer screen. This computer screen showed information such as what type of delivery was preformed (C-section or vaginal delivery), how the baby is to be fed (i.e. breastfeeding, formula), where the baby is being kept (NICU or nursery), etc. I witnessed a baby’s first bath, which can only be given after the baby is has a stable temperature. For this reason, most babies in the NICU will not have their first bath until weeks or months after they have been born. One thing that is not common that I had the opportunity to see was a patient with a nasogastric intubation (aspiration). The reason for her having this was because she had an abundance of fluids in her stomach, even after she had delivered her baby, and these fluids were not draining. Although I did not get to observe this next condition first hand due to the baby being placed in the NICU, I was informed that there was a baby born with gastroschisis. Gastroschisis is a disorder in which the baby is born with part of its intestines outside of its body, via the umbilical cord. My mentor described this…

    An extract from the title Lord of the Flies was amidst the scene where the boys are hunting a sow. While on the literal sense the perception of this extract seems to be just killing a sow, this extended metaphor highlights the boys transformation into savagery, how its demonstrated is through use of imagery. At this point in the novel, the boys have been castaways for an extensive period of time now and with no adults and no females, their loss of social order leading to anarchy among the group, all propelling their desire for self-gratification which is stirring up inside of them. The boys discover a form of pleasure through hunting, showing in killing of the sow that the images used represent the hedonistic act of pleasure seeking behaviour, where the hunt is portrayed to represent fulfillment of sexual desires, suggesting the act of rape. The imagery conveyed in this extract operates through use of emotive language and dark adjectives to detail the boys brutal and savage behaviour to emphasise the loss or order, how being absent for organized society presents new means in obtaining pleasure and self gratification, highlighting the change to barbaric and brutalism.…

The shortfall between the money collected and the money that the law mandated to be collected is estimated to be INR1766.45 billion (US$27 billion), as valued by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India based on 3G and BWA spectrum auction prices in 2010.[1] However, the exact loss is disputed. In a chargesheet filed on 2 April 2011 by the investigating agency, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the loss was pegged at INR309845.5 million (US$4.7 billion)[2] whereas on 19 August 2011 in a reply to CBI, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said that the government gained over INR30 billion (US$460 million) by giving 2G spectrum.[2] Similarly Kapil Sibal, the Minister of Communications & IT, claimed in 2011, during a press conference, that "zero loss" was caused by distributing 2G licenses on first-come-first-served basis.[3] It has to be pointed out, however, that "zero loss" can simply mean that frequencies were not sold for less than cost.
