Film Analysis: The Outsiders
The plot in the movie and the novel had many differences. The exposition is one of the differences that made the movie confusing. Instead of Ponyboy leaving the movie house and getting jumped by the Socs, he starts to write The Outsiders. It was a huge mistake for Francis Coppola to leave this out because the exposition in the book involved a significant event, where the Socs showed the violent relationship they have between the Greasers. Another difference is When Cherry explains to Ponyboy that ‘Socs are cool to the point of not feeling anything’, without this scene in the movie, it is harder to understand how Cherry views the conflict between Socs and Greasers. Although there were differences, there were also similarities. One of them is the scene where Dally slapped Ponyboy; this scene was kept the same because this is how the three deaths started. If Dally didn’t slap Ponyboy, he wouldn’t have run away with Johnny and stabbed a Soc. He wouldn’t have gone to the abandoned church to hide, the church wouldn’t have been caught on fire, Johnny wouldn’t have been trapped inside, Johnny wouldn’t have died because of his condition, Dally wouldn’t have gone crazy and rob a grocery store and Dally wouldn’t have been shot by the police. Another similarity in the exposition is the death …show more content…
In the novel, Ponyboy described the countryside well enough to feel like you are there. However, in the movie the countryside looked plain and boring. The sky was the only feature that made it look alive. The countryside could’ve been more of how Ponyboy described it in the book because it is the only place where Ponyboy and Johnny felt safe and happy. In contrast, of the book, the movie had North side and South side instead of East side and West side. This confuses the reader and leaves them questioning why it was

Both The perks of being a wallflower and The Outsiders establish a controlling idea about conformity. An influence involving a change in belief or behavior in order to fit in with a group. The author Stephen Chbosky in The perks of being a wallflower discusses conformity when he writes “ We got to the house where the part was, and Patrick did his secret knock.” Here the author wants the reader to know that Charlie begins to feels peer pressure placed on him, because to follow his friends would make him more integrated. For example, in the book when Ponyboy was talking with Cherry Valance, a Soc, they were talking about different things, and he remembered what had happened to Johnny, They talked about how bad some of the socs that came in a blue Mustang had beaten him up pretty badly. It all started when Johnny was in the vacant lot retrieving a football when some soc's got out of a blue mustang, caught him, and started beating him up. After that Day Johnny was a nervous and timid wreck. The difference is in the movie, The movie never covered that scene. Since they left that out, no one knows exactly why Johnny is so scared when it came to seeing that blue mustang and Bob, one of the Soc's getting out of the car. Either way in the book and the movie , when Bob and the other Soc's jump Johnny and Ponyboy in the park, Johnny kills Bob because he is scared that bob might drown Ponyboy. Another scene left out, is the scene when Cherry Valance and Ponyboy are standing in line for the concessions at the drive-in movie, and were talking. One of the topics was about Sodapop, who is Ponyboy's second oldest brother. The one thing that they said about him was when he had a horse named Mickey Mouse. The horse used to belong to a guy in a stable who he used to work for. So, Soda ended up naming it Mickey Mouse and would always ride the horse. But this was personal to him and it marked a point where Ponyboy trusted Cherry to just talk and wasn't nervous around her, the…

Ponyboy gets out ok, Dally burns his arm, but a huge piece of wood falls on Johnny, breaking his back, and burning him badly. The film O Brother Where Art Thou is cleverly and intelligently based on the famous Odyssey by the well-known Homer. There are quite a few distinctive differences though. While in the movie, Ulysses didn’t have any affairs, his wife did not wait patiently for him, he had six daughters, and each of his accompanying men stayed with him until the end of the journey. In the poem the setting was vastly unlike; Odysseus wasn’t an escaping criminal during the depression. Other than those and a few others, there were many parallel aspects, situations and relationships that had a resemblance to the Odyssey. In the epic poem Circe turns the men into animals, in the movie one of characters believe that his companion has been turned into a toad. Ulysses’…

S.E. Hinton, the author of The Outsiders has written many unique conflicts in her book. One of many conflicts in the story are the Socs (the rich playboys) versus the Greasers (the lowlife hoodlums), with the problem being that one is rich and the other being poor. The second accessible one to spot in the book would be Darry (older brother of Ponyboy) and Ponyboy (the main character), just can’t understand each other, they're so different. The third battle is a little difficult to understand which is Ponyboy versus himself, in which he can’t admit the truth. Let's begin with the most common known rivalry in this book, the Scos versus the Greasers.…

My mom loves showing me her old, favorite movies from her teenage days and the one she picked out for me recently was Thelma and Louise. This movie is jam-packed with violence as the two leading women go on an escapade to Mexico together in hopes of escaping their boring lives. In the beginning of the movie, there was sexual violence between Thelma and a man she met at a bar that they stopped at. He attempted to rape her, but Louise shot him before he got the chance. Later, it is implied that Louise was raped in Texas before the movie plot began. The rest of the movie consists of the two women running from police and committing crimes while on their escape to Mexico. After watching the movie, I found myself most angry at the rape scene.…

The movie "A Bronx Tale" is obviously set in the Bronx and sets a young man Calogero Anello, "C" against the trials and tribulations of growing up incorruptible, in a neighborhood of mob crime and wayward minors. The movie holds characters that fit delinquency terms such as chronic offenders, and characters that fit theories such as the choice theory. Calogero at the end of the movie seems to have an identity crisis as mentioned by Erikson in his theory. Also characters show signs of being latent delinquents, and some characters seem to attribute their actions to the social learning theory. The movie as a whole is a great sign to see the varying degrees of delinquency especially in urban communities. I think the movie also gives people…

A victim is someone who feels ostracized by an oppressor or multiple oppressors. A victim is someone who feels uncomfortable in a setting, feeling unwelcomed, and feeling targeted. Get Out shows the story of Chris as he meets his white girlfriend’s parents for the first time, and in meeting them he becomes a victim to her family’s wickedness. Get Out is a film that provides insight to the views of African-Americans in society and how they feel as the victim in more ways than the White-Americans because they are expected to behave in ways that are not true to their character, beast like, and subordinate. The idea that African Americans are the victim rather than the oppressor is a new take on a drawn-out tale. Through the use of non-diegetic…

Growing up can be a stressful, causing children to make grueling decisions, Riley from Inside Out is no exception. Riley an 11-year-old girl has to move with her parents from Minneapolis to San Francisco with no friends, no personal belongings, and her father's stressful job. Pixar's Inside Out has to be one of the worst children's movies due to a lack of positive role-modeling, dark subconscious behavior, and influential possibilities. In 1993, Disney studios made an attempt to shut down the production of Toy Story because Woody appeared to be a "sarcastic jerk"; due to some decision made by Riley's character Pixar should have considered an alternate script for Inside Out.…

In addition to the first two impacts of inspiring change and drawing attention to the inequities in testing, authors can have the most important impact of teaching today’s youth the importance of compassion. After reading The Outsiders, by SE Hinton, teenage readers cannot help but feel grief for all of the poor characters who died early because of their horrible lot in life. The Greasers in The Outsiders were a poor group of young adults who faced extreme challenges daily. Life was unfair to the Greasers because of their extreme poverty, alcohol abuse, and being surrounded by violence, and there really was no way for them to escape. With the widening disparity between the poor and the rich, SE Hinton wrote The Outsiders perhaps as a way…
