Hi guys. Today I am seriously pissed off at my school. I was promised $3,766 for my refund, since November , and I was only given $2,262. I need $3,200 for housing, so I am about $1,000 short.

This morning when I looked into my account, i was expecting to see over $3,000, but what I saw instead was that $2,000.My heart felt like it went straight to my stomach, I was so nervous. So, I called my student accounts office to see what was the problem and they said I already got too much of a refund, so they toke one of my scholarships away. I was mad, I earned that scholarship, also, I was promised that money. I drove to the school to talk to the account people in person, but they redirected me to the financial aid office, saying that they

I know I am not the only person that has had a hard time getting into school, or understanding how. Now that I’m in it, I feel lots better but of course it has been a very hard time coming from a 9-5 job and then straight to another job to pay the bills. First off, I learned that it is not free. No matter how many ads and people I had spoken to telling me “oh yeah, school is free”. It certainly has not been for me at least. I had a few small grants but nothing that was enough to help out with my living costs/ tuition/ books, thus leaving me to the device of taking out student loans. Since then I have been seeking scholarships but have not had the greatest luck. With this information that I have provided, I have now taken one loan out and this is my first loan. I still work two jobs picking up shifts at a bar on a weekend and receiving a student loan. I shouldn’t have to take a loan out that I am going to pay back years from now. I am having to work two jobs and do two classes a semester which to get to any or the degree that I want, will take years thus leaving me with a huge amount of debt I owe. Now, I am still lost just finding my own balance of work and…

The bill I’m proposing would involve using Texas public funding to support two-year colleges and four-year universities through a 10% tax increase program each year called The College Help Tax. College tuition, today is up to $7,000 a semester and continues to raise every year. Through this tax program, it would be of assistance for all Texas residents to use to attend college. There would be no restrictions so every Texas citizen would be able to receive a college degree without the massive price tag.…

While I agree that student loan debt is always in the back of a medical student’s mind, I disagree with the idea that it is a significant driving force for specialty choice or that it prevents people from entering primary care. Just as the data in this article suggests, I believe most medical students choose their specialty based upon personality fit and how well a specialty complements their interests, goals, and values. In my personal experience, enjoying a clerkship and feeling a connection with individuals within a given specialty increases the likelihood of considering said specialty, regardless of potential for monetary gain. Monetary gain may be a secondary factor for some students, depending upon their goals, however I do not believe…

At the end of my fifth grade year, I unexpectedly got accepted to Risley Early College Academy, a program designed to prepare middle and high school students for college. Risley was originally an ordinary high school, which has been standing for years, but someone decided to turn the school into a college program for young students. Throughout my years at Risley, the school was ranked as number one in testing, which proved that the program was a success. Even though the program was doing so well and had so many achievements academically, the school closed down due to budget cuts. The closing of Risley left me stranded with no other option for a school in mind. This was only part of God master plan.…

I am familiar with Pell grants as a student. However, I never truly knew what it was and how it would affect me personally. So, I began to do some research on what a pell grant is? And when, or how they are disbursed to students all over the country. The reason why I am writing about Pell grants is because in our English class book “The Other Wes Moore” by the author Wes Moore It was brought to my attention the topic about pell grants. One of the Wes Moore’s mothers was going to college and the only way she was able to attend school was because of Pell grants. However, there was a series of unfortunate events where she was not able to receive Pell grants. She then had to quit attending school.…

The choice to attend college is a personal one. Earning a college degree involves a great deal of personal commitment. Ultimately, while the individual attainment of a college degree may benefit the greater society, the overwhelming benefit is to the individual. In contrast, a public road or sidewalk benefits the many. Road and sidewalks are integral to many peoples’ daily lives. Government should seek to benefit the many; however, the Denver City Council seeks to benefit individuals through the imposition of a sales tax for scholarships. In an era of limited incomes and higher taxes, the question becomes, “Which is more more beneficial-- taxing Peter to benefit Paul only or taxing Peter to benefit all?” This question was addressed in…

I, Kourtney Brooks, am writing to you in hopes that the decision of me being ineligible for financial aid due to not maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.0 can be appealed due to extenuating circumstances. Entering into the spring semester, due to my performance in the Fall I knew there was a lot of work to be done. In the Fall, after being out of college for a few years I had to get acclimated to working and going to school full time, not to mention online schooling, which is something I hadn’t experienced before, but due to having to work to take care of myself I made the decision to try it because I know in order to truly excel in life I have to further my education. Nonetheless, I went into the spring semester a stronger student due to the mistakes in the semester that instilled the strength and…

Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to afford to continue his or her education into the college level. Financial aid helps those in need to continue their education, however, financial aid does not help everyone. One important group of people left out of receiving financial aid are those under the age of 25, unmarried, with no children, and completely independent of their parent 's income. Because of how the system works, these people must present their parent 's income on the FAFSA to see if they qualify for any financial aid.…
