Dark Room * Welcome to River Safari, Asia first’s & only river-themed wildlife park. * At River Safari, we bring you closer to freshwater ecosystem to experience the amazing diversity of the natural world. * Freshwater have been and still are, infinitely important to human civilization in many form * Do you know that 45% of fish species are found in freshwater? However due to over exploitation, pollution and habitat destruction, we are losing the freshwater species faster than the marine and forest ones. Therefore, we need to protect them * At River Safari, we featured the life forms that are found in & along the 8 major rivers in the world. Each river is themed to showcase the culture and environment that the animals lived in. * Now, let me show you 3 of the rivers in River Safari
MISSISSIPPI RIVER * Mississippi river is located in the US. It is the 4th longest river in the world and served as a major shipping route, transporting agricultural and industrial products. It is also a major water source for cities like Minneapolis and Memphis. Let’s move on to see what animals are found in this river
Carolina Duck * Does anybody know what the name of the duck is? Yes, they are the Carolina Duck. So how to differentiate the male & female? * Male Carolina Duck has a rusty colored chest and black backs & tails. Their head is iridescent green, blue and purple and their eyes are red. * As for the female Carolina Duck, they are brownish to gray & have white eye rings as well as a gray chest. * Female duck typically lay 7-15 eggs and they will be incubated for 30 days. The little ducklings are precocial & leave the nest within 24 hours. After 56-70 days, they will then reach independence. Conservation Message | They were once near extinction in early 1900s due to hunting & habitat destruction. THANKFULLY, hunting laws are placed to protect them, so their population is thriving. |
