Final Draft Hard Work Does Pay Off

When I was born my father had to leave Peru. He left my mother and I to go to the United States. He didn’t leave my mother and I because he didn’t love us anymore. He left us so that he could go work his butt off. He wanted his wife and his son to have a better life. He wanted me to have opportunities that he couldn’t have for himself. Three and a half years passed by, I turned three years old. We had everything we needed. My father never stopped sending us money. Three and a half years that I didn’t get to see my father. Three years a son without a father, I can’t even begin to imagine how my mother felt. My mother always reminds me how I would always ask about him. I was so young and I didn’t have my father by my side. I didn’t know who he was. I could only imagine him from the stories my mother would tell me about him.
Even though my father left us, it was for a good reason. I do have to say it was hard growing up without a father. Not being able to look up to someone. My mother would always tell me stories about him. I knew that he was working his butt off for us. He would always wire my mother money and, I would always receive gifts from him. He would send me toys, clothes, and everything I needed. What I did know at that age was that I did have a father and that he did love me very much. I just couldn’t wait to meet him.
My father came to the United States so he could have a better opportunity at being successful. He started off literally washing toilets. With the little money he would earn, he would send it to his family. My father is a very hard worker and, I really admire that about him. I am so thankful for my father, I am truly blessed. With all his hard work and all of his sacrifice, he brought my mother and I to this country. It is true when people say “hard work pays off”. My

Throughout my childhood, my father had always traveled between Los Angeles, California and Uruapan Michoacán in Mexico. He would work for six months in California and then return to Mexico for the rest of the year without a need to work. Why would a father put his family through these challenges? Besides the obvious reason of our family needing finances, we later discovered that our dad, upon reaching his thirties, was going through some sort of midlife crisis. My 15 year old brother Joe joined a gang short after my dad left back to the United States. He became difficult and refused to listen to our mother. He would stroll the the streets all night and routinely come back home with items we suspect were stolen. My parents had always pondered upon and discussed the consequences of leaving us alone, without the guidance and support of both a mother and father. But because of our financial situation, my father needed to make the sacrifice. We all needed to sacrifice something.…

I remember the night my dad left like it was yesterday, and I don’t think I will ever forget. I don’t remember what exactly it was that made him so mad but I’m sure my sister and I were fighting like sisters do. My only really vivid memory of that night was my dad hitting me so hard he left bruise marks on my backside. I could hear my mom and dad fighting so I knew my mom saved me again. Then my dad got really mad at her and he grabbed her by the shoulders and shoved her into the pantry door so hard that both my mom and the pantry door came crashing to the floor. When I got up for school the next morning my dad was gone. Some children aren’t as lucky though and Child Protective Services has to remove them from a bad situation.…

All those years spent in school and we gave up only so that we could go in another country to take care of “some kids”. I felt really sad about this because I wanted him to be on my side, to be proud of me, but he kept telling me how I was wasting my time. He really wanted me to get educated and find a good job. Last Christmas, my parents came to visit in the United States to spend some time with me and my older sister.…

My parents are the hardest working individuals I know. Both, my mom and my dad, made and continue to make sacrifices to this day. It all started about 5 years ago. My Dad moved to San Diego to acquire more income for me and my family, leaving my mother with 3 children. This was a very difficult time for each of us, but I would like to think for my Dad even more. Coming from a small island, Guam, he had to adapt to this whole new culture in Southern California, by himself. He had to work, eat, sleep by himself and make time out of his day to talk to his kids. This was an emotional time for him too because I know after a couple years without seeing your kids, life…

My mom was born in the city of Saigon in a family of fifteen. She is the second youngest child in the family. After the fall of Saigon, my mother’s family was actually sponsored by her third oldest sister to move to America as my aunt had been living there as a lawyer. Her family was way more prepared than my father’s family as my mother’s family was able to get to America by plane. Like my father, my mom started her journey in America in Louisiana. They had lived in New Orleans for a couple of months. It wasn’t until the family had traveled west in which they moved to Houston due to the sponsorship. My mother was around seventeen when she started school in America. She knew no English, but that didn’t stop her from excelling all her classes. While she was in high school, she met my dad as he was renting a videotape from her sister’s store. They ended up dating and both going to the University of Houston. While they were in college they got married. Right before she was about to graduate college in which she only needed to finish one more class, she ended up having me because of the honeymoon. After that, she decided to not finish college and stayed home to take care of me and then eventually my sister. My mom said that “I was a present,” but in reality, I was the accident…

As we know in a family, there always have a stern father and a compassionate mother. However, my father is not that stern. He always can meet all my requirements and give me the best things. Every time when I heard “Father” by Chopstick Brothers, I am touched and my mood is heavy. The whole song describes a story that is similar to me. When I was third grade my father came to America, I have not seemed him until I came here. Even though my father was far away at that time, I still could feel the love from him. My father still gave a call every day, although China has time difference with the United States. No matter how tired he was. He was cared about me and never forgot my birthday. Until the day when I saw my father in John F. Kennedy International Airport, I could not believe that person is my father. I saw there had grey hair in my father’s hair. My dad was fifteen years when he did something I can never even imagine about doing; he crossed the border. He sacrificed so much in order to live a better life, without him I would not be writing this essay right now. My mother is a first generation Mexican-American, like myself, and also experienced the affects of her parents wanting more for their family. Fortunately for us, our family has strived in today’s society and would not be where we are without hardwork and dedication.…

The disappearance of my dad changed everything. It all started with a phone call. The message, echoing in my ear like a gunshot, was clear: my dad will move to China without us. At the time my father did not tell me the exact reason for his departure, but I read recently in a magazine that he was escaping from a group of lobbying businessmen, or more specifically, a group of gangsters. He was gone for a year, and, my seemingly perfect life was completely destroyed. At least I thought that was the case just after my dad left us.The group of men who took my dad away from my family was not only after my dad, but they were also after my family. For safety issue, my entire family was forced out from the tranquil life that we used to have. The change in my life was so big that I thought I would never live through this transition.…

He was a member of a hardworking Nigerian family from osun state who took pride in what they did. My father passed this on to me. On my mother’s side, my grandfather was a farmer. He managed to provide for his family through endless hours of farming, he is a good example of how hard work pays off because with the money he gathered from his farm, he was able to build a big house in the city and he has also granted me life lessons, among them the ability to push past a struggle, to find fairness and justice in an unjust world and to become a stronger person for myself and those around me. I remember I sometimes hated leaving my mom and dad. I wished I could be with both of them at the same time. Me and my sisters lived in a new house in Everett, with our then new Step dad, Mom, and baby sister Meghan. Whenever we went over to my dads, there was always something my parents were fighting about, whether it involved us or not, we would always get an earful from both of them. This point of their separation really affected me the most. I didn’t realize until I got older that we should have never been exposed to that part of their lives, considering how young we were. Another part of their divorce was dealing with a step dad I’ve never been fond of, and neither were my sisters. It was somewhat of a culture shock, him growing up in Mexico, and for us, as we began living with a guy who wasn’t even our dad. I would always ask my mom why she couldn’t have married someone else. Someone we liked. My step dad was the type of guy who only cared about his “real” children, not us. It became a constant struggle for attention from my Mom. When we were young, my sister and I were treated like maids around the house when my step dad was around. He is honestly one of the main reasons why the divorce was so heartbreaking for me and my siblings. I feel as if my mom had married someone who supported her and loved her unconditionally; it would have made more of a positive impact during this hard time in our…
