Head Girl
Prefect Choices: Head Girl, Deputy Head Girl, Head of School Council

I would like to be a prefect as it would be a privilege to be elected to take the part of a key role in the functioning and representation of Marlborough Girls’ College. In addition to this, I would benefit personally by becoming prefect giving me the opportunity to be able to develop my public speaking and leadership skills, which will be useful later on in life. Another reason as to why I would like to be prefect is because I would like to be able to be seen as an approachable person for pupils of all ages to be able to talk to about any queries or concerns they may have. As Prefect I would hope to bring different parts of the school closer together with ideas of how to do so, coming from the other students themselves. Throughout my time at girls’ college I have contributed greatly to school life as well as outside school. For instance, I work and interact with the other students of any year group as well as taking part in the role of senior school leader, peer supporter, international supporter, lab assistant, bus monitor, international committee and I’m also a proud member of the Marlborough Volleyball Committee. I have always enjoyed working with other students as well as teachers and I would like to continue to do so as I feel working together with others helps build friendship and develop a sense of equality and easiness around the college. I was the member of the 2010 Formal committee; I mentor a student from the junior school and I also helped out at the 2010 Quiz Night held at Girls’ College. All of these positions require leadership skills and a lot of work and preparation outside school. Through my contributions around school and outside school, I have learnt how to seek and accept opinions from other students and teachers to improve my performance around college. As prefect I would aim to reduce boundaries, which exist between year groups. The principal change I would make is to

I’d be able to take on more responsibilities in the school and community as well as helping my fellow students in their endeavours. I would be in a position where I’d be more readily able to use my leadership skill in helping others, and guiding them to obtain a better control over their surroundings. If I were to be invited to become a member of the NHS, I’d desire to be influenced by the best the school has to offer and hopefully make my mark on others lives as the one who is dependable, trustworthy and above all else willing to do anything to brighten another's’ day. In summation, being a part of the National Honor Society would better my life in innumerable ways while I aim to do the same for others around…

Sophomore Class President Serena Saleh uses a decent amount of time after school for her class, especially when there are fundraisers and meetings. “Time is never really wasted,” she says. She says that the student government can be very productive when conducting business without deadline worries. In her opinion, being class president is most enjoyable when she knows that her work is helping to improve the class and giving a voice to the students of the Sophomore Class. This is Saleh`s third year as president. Her greatest improvements are in her leadership, public speaking ability, and character. Some of the biggest problems she faces are the planning of events, working around everyone’s schedules, last minute plans, and…

Last year I was asked to be a small group leader for incoming 7th grade students this year. Having known what it felt like to be a new student in a completely different school I jumped on the opportunity to help. I, like Billy tried to be open and welcoming, encouraging the 7th graders to become involved in the Xaverian community just like Billy did for me and I’m sure many others. My goal was to be able to help the 7th graders in any situation whether they needed advice or just want to share a funny story. As a student council senator I would try to do the same. I would strive to always be friendly and kind to all Xaverian students wanting everyone to feel welcome. I would encourage other to join clubs and activities and go on service projects like X-Act and Christmas in the city. Most of all I would want each and every student at Xaverian to feel accepted and to feel excited, knowing that they are each a key part in the larger, greater, Xaverian…

Even after not being elected Member at Large I got myself involved showing that it was not just about a position to me. I have devoted so much into the council and into the events student council has hosted. In workshops and small groups I have learned a little about how to become a leader and my knowledge would only increase by taking part in the Hyannis conference. I would not only like to enhance my leadership skills but I aspire to help others to reach their full potential. As I'm going to the fall SEMASC conference I will already have experience in campaigning so I would be an asset there. My personality would also be of help because I'm not afraid to look silly or do something out of my comfort zone. I would be able to participate fully and wholeheartedly in the polar plunge and lip sync which many people may have trouble doing. Student council is a passion of mine and to be able to attend this conference and expand my experience would be amazing.…
