Health and Social Care Level 3 Unit 1 P1
Effective Communications in Health and Social Care
Within this essay, the role of effective communication and interpersonal interaction in a health and social care context will be explained. It will also be linked to experiences in work placements for example, may be at a care home for adults with learning disabilities, and physical disabilities. The five contexts which will be researched are; one to one communication, group communication, multi agency working, multi professional working also communication with professionals. The research will prove that all these different contexts have different methods of communicating with the other person, or people. Furthermore the research will also suggest how to get effective communication in the different contexts, for example in one to one communication you will be able to communicate easier because you just have to think about the one person.
Inside one to one communication it is believed that, the positive the emotional atmosphere the better it is, because it makes the other person feel relaxed and happy to talk to you; this makes it easier for when you discuss complicated issues or give people information, because it shows them that you’re friendly and trust worthy. It is understood that when finishing the conversation you should leave the other person with the right kind of emotions to show them you value them. “Usually a formal conversation has a three stage model, with an emotional ‘warm up stage’ at the beginning, a ‘business’ or ‘exchange of information’ stage in the middle and a ‘winding down stage’ at the end.” (Stretch.B (2010), page 4). During one to one communication you will mainly use oral communication, signing, symbols, touch; you may also use text messaging and written during some situations and because of some circumstances. You will mainly use oral communication when it is understood that there are no hearing or speaking barriers involved; if that was the case then you will either use signing; such
