Hogsmeadow Gardening Centre Notes
Hogsmeadow Garden Centre (Notes): * Leisure products and services, especially garden-related products, have been expanding over the past few years. Even so, the Hogsmeadow Garden Centre has been particularly successful. (because conveniently located and outstanding reputation for excellent service) * Also have been successful in attracting some of the “personality gardeners” from television to make special appearance. * Main Ambition: To fully develop its twelve hectares to make the center a place people will want to visit in its own right. Also envisage the center to develop in to a mini gardening theme park.

* Hogsmeadow is a large village situated in the Cotswolds, a popular tourist area of the UK. * It has an interesting range of shops and restaurants, mainly catering for the tourist trade. * Hogsmeadow Garden Center is about half a mile outside the village. * The garden center is served by a good network of main roads but is inaccessible by public transport. * Growth has been dramatic over the past 5 years, and now the garden center sells many other goods as was as gardening requisites. It also has a restaurant which opens Monday – Saturday (9am-6pm), Sunday (10am-5pm)

Outside the Center: * The center has a large car park. (can accommodate about 350cars) * Outside the entrance a map indicates the various areas in the garden center. (Most customers walk around the grounds before making their purchases.) * The length of time people spend in the center varies but, according to a recent study, (Average 53minutes during weekday), (Average 73minutes on weekends). * The number of customers arriving at the garden center varies depending on the time of the year, day of the week and time of the day. There are 2 peaks in customer numbers. (One during the late spring/early summer period), the other (the build up to Christmas). Hogsmeadow puts on particularly good Christmas displays.

Marris explained that, “Many conservationists are opening up their definitions of nature and embracing a whole suite of possible goals beyond the familiar pristine wilderness goal.” One specific example she offers to support her argument involves an experiment being conducted in Hawaii.…
