How Did George Washington Plan A Surprise Attack On Trenton
On the night of December 25, 1776 George Washington planned a surprise attack on the Hessians in Trenton, New Jersey. His plan was to sneak up the Delaware River the following night. The plan took a full two days to create, but after it was made it sure was a great one.
The following night Washington led a group of Army troops across the icy Delaware River. The used a very small boat with about twenty men on board. It was a hard and cold journey and least six men had to row the boat at a time.
As the arrived in Trenton, the battle began with George Washington's troops against John Rall's troops. When they arrived in Trenton, New Jersey the were easily outnumbered. The battle lasted around six hours until Washington had to retreat.
They went back to Pennsylvania in a hard, hard defeat and had to come up with a new plan of attack. Their new plan was to head up to the river again, but this time with more troops. They also had to sneak up from a new spot so their enemy would be surprised . …show more content…
