The skills covered in the reading this week are very helpful and the three suggestions I look to incorporate are; previewing, marking, and reviewing. I would incorporate these skills by printing out the book on campus. I will preview my reading before I begin to read it all. There is a short amount of time to learn all the information, previewing helps to identify important information and focus my study. It is easier to underline and highlight on a hard copy, which is a good reason to print the reading. I will review the reading more than once to make sure I understand everything completely.…

I approroach this week’s reading by printing everything out so I will have all course work and chapters in front of me. Then I read the entire chapter taking note in my own word so I can understand them better. When I have all my notes and key headings marked out, I read the assignments to see if I read the answer. Sometimes I’ll read the chapter over again to make sure I didn’t miss anything important in my notes. I even reread my notes a couple of time to make sure they make sense, but before I do any type of finial paper I search the library to find more info if I quite don’t understand.…

In defining the reading and writing learning strategy, the author identified that the reading and writing learning model uses intake of material in a text-based format. It uses lists, headings, dictionaries, handouts and textbooks as the prime source of intake material. Notes taken during lecture and manuals are also used as a source. When preparing to study, rewriting notes taken during lecture, and reading notes over and over, either out loud or silently, are some strategies used in this type of learning style. When preparing for test assignments or exams, taking practice exams with multiple choice questions is often helpful for students with the preference for the reading and writing learning style.…

I could incorporate some of these suggestions by printing certain sections and marking of my EBooks which can be placed in an empty binder and organized and placed in sections that will be covered in this class. Another strategy that I can incorporate is previewing my text. This would be done at the beginning of my readings of every chapter. One last strategy that I would incorporate is reading in time blocks. This would be done by taking fifteen to twenty minutes per chapter during study times. All three of these suggestions together will help my study habits and just overall help my reading abilities.…

In Reading 080 I have learned a lot about reading. I feel that I have become a stronger reader and the experience has definitely touched up on my reading skills. The book we read in this class “Gonzalez and Daughter Trucking co” has definitely made me more interested in reading. I did find this book very interesting. In a way, it opened up the different kinds of cultures. I found it very fascinating learning in this book a little what it was like in Mexico and all the difficulties Libertad, her father and friends have been through. Everyone has a story and I think, in a way, everyone should be able to share it with people. I liked learning facts about what people have been through and how they manage to make it. Taking reading 080 has helped me with the basics of reading. I have learned to pay close attention to the little details that a writer puts into his/her work. Even looking at the pictures or little side comments really helps me and my understanding as in where the author is coming from. The workbook has helped me to pay more attention in a reading material and to know the true purpose for reading those articles. Reading different stories and articles in class gave me a lot of information. Whether I was reading about politics or everyday events, I didn’t realize at the time but it was very educational. The most interesting reading was about our history and all the different places it can take you. I think that I have accomplished many things in this course. I know that my reading skills are much better and it made me want to read more. Which I think is a miracle. I definitely think that I have a way to go on improvement. I do believe that there is always room for improvement and this is just the…

First of all, reading books is a great way to achieve an “A” grade in any English class. It improves your vocabulary, and you will find yourself exposed to many new words that you would not be otherwise. Also, since it requires you to focus on what you are reading for long periods of time, it will improve your concentration. Reading also requires remembering details, facts and figures and in literature, plot lines, themes and characters, which will be useful when learning how to write short stories. It also teaches you how to use descriptive and interesting words to capture the reader’s attention when you are writing and helps you to better understand literature, grammar and punctuation. When I previewed the modules in the Etudes website, it is obvious that reading is the first main activity in this English course. The materials are varied and nothing I have encountered before. I presume they are modern and intense. Students are expected to apply critical thinking to analyze the material promptly. I have a part-time job as a caregiver for a stroke patient earning minimum wage. In this job, a college degree is not required and I do not need to be a trained “reader” because the nurses take care of the medications and medical reports. It dawned on me, that to achieve a step higher from where I am, I have to finish a college degree and that means I have to acquire the skills to be an efficient reader. This course will prepare me for complex reading materials I may encounter in the professional world such as medical or business reports. The story of a man named Anthony Robbins inspired me in the passion for reading. He loved to read so much that he finished and absorbed a book in one day. He did it for seven years and end up starting his million dollar company at the age of 24. In his speeches, he shared that when he read it’s like absorbing…
