How I Want to Be Remembered
Greatest Uncle Tribute Speech

I’ve chosen to give my tribute speech about my uncle. He has done a lot for me in my life. His name is Robert. He has been in the United States Air Force since He was 18. This guy has had a major impact on my life. When I’ve been having a hard time or having a hard day. He would always be there when I needed him the most. Robert has taught me a lot throughout the years. When I was little I used to look up to him as a role model. I knew right then I wanted to be that guy. I wanted to show everyone that knew him what he had done for me. When I was little my uncle would come home for christmas and stay a while in town. This was the only time that I would be able to see him because he was always so busy with all the things that he had going on and being in the air force. When I was about 6 he lived in Georgia with is wife and 2 boys. I got to go see his house since he lived on the military base. As a grew older and started thinking about what I wanted to do when I was out of high school and that I had to move on and move into the real world living on my own and working all the time. I would talk to him about what I had planned for the real world then he had suggested that I think about doing what Phelikes to do. I wasn’t for sure at that time. I just knew that I wanted to do something similar or actually join the armed forces and be just like him.. He had choosen what he wanted in the Armed forces by going to college and

Once I saw my father almost lose his life for a lady he didn’t know. These are the kind of experiences that make me surprised he lived till this age. As people entered this place today, many walked up to me offering their condolences and mentioning all the various things that my father had done for them. Some said he was a brother to them while others hardly knew him. That’s the charm about my father. You didn’t have to know him before he sacrificed something for you. I used to dislike that side of him as he hardly had time for me. It wasn’t until we came to America that…

I never thought me, of all people, would experience such a sorrowful day. I have tried to forget it time and time again; but the reality is I will always remember every miniscule detail, moment, word, and facial expression on that particular day. My heart managed to shatter into a million pieces, leaving me without a reason to pursue my existence. My salty tears freely rolled down my warm cheeks, causing my eyes to burn sensationally. I remember mourning on the comforting shoulders of my family members, as they too were consumed by their feelings. The most valuable lesson that beared a reservation in my spirit was to cherish every moment and loved one, for tomorrow is not guaranteed to anyone. I wish I could have fathom this reality before the climactic tragedy struck me like a ton of bricks. Although death is normal, it seemed almost foreign when it abducted the life of my favorite uncle.…

The song “Simple Man” by Hank Williams Jr is the perfect example of how my grandpa lived his life. My grandpa was a simple kind of man he did not own expensive cars or big houses. He wanted things to be as simple as possible just so he had more time and money for his family. He would say that troubles will come but they will pass quickly, he was very right about that. When I was around 15 and looking for my first job he told me to find something that I loved and understood, if I didn’t I would not enjoy my job much.…

Both my grandfather and great-grandfather proudly served. Sam Patterson, my great-grandfather, is a WWII veteran who served in the Navy for many years. James Patterson, my grandfather, followed his father’s footsteps and served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Both are disabled vets whose commitments to serve our country and the rigor this service demanded on their physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual levels are what fueled my desire to serve my peers in various capacities. My other grandfather, Herbert Owenby, was a gifted athlete who participated in two varsity sports at the collegiate level. People tell me that I get my athleticism from him. I think he actually molded me into the person I am today. He once told me the most important thing I could do in life was not to excel in sports but to be the best person I could be and help others when they needed help. He never got to see me win a national title, a state title, or even participate in a high school sport. But I know nothing would make him prouder of me than being the best person I can be and helping those along the way. He was given the opportunity to attend Boys State in 1963; an opportunity that probably helped shape him into the man he became. All three grandfathers taught me to lead by example while being…

As a child I have always wanted to help other people. When I was 8 my parents decided to separate. At the time, my mother decided to move my sister and I away from Chicago. My mother packed our luggage and decided to move us to Detroit. That wasnt the only time we moved, we moved four times while I was growing up, all over the country and even to another continent. Eventually we had to leave our mom in Nigeria and my sister and I went to Detroit. When we got to Detroit my aunt didn't hesitate to make us feel comfortable. It was just something about it,I still didn't feel right. I called my mother one day crying to her and explaining how we didn't like being there. After talking to her, I felt that it was time to go back to Chicago. I called my dad, (knowing I haven’t spoke/seen him for many years) and explained to him the situation on how we felt uncomfortable in Detroit.…

While the assignment seemed like the biggest catastrophe of my fourth grade career at the time, I would not trade the hours spent listening to my grandfather’s stories for anything in the world. Those few hours alone taught me more about hard work and determination than any class at school ever could. I try every day to remind myself of the sacrifices he made for me to be here and have the opportunity to get an education and pursue my passions.…

    Belonging to America

My grandfather always used to explain to me how lucky I was to be able to be an American. He would inform me on how valuable it was and how I should never take it for granted. He expressed that I should feel honored to be able to have all the opportunities I do. I never understood him growing up. I did not understand how growing up somewhere, like America, versus another country could be any different. I understand now. When I was younger, my mother would tell different stories about her childhood. She would go into saying, “Growing up grandpa was in the service. I always missed him and did not understand why he had to go fight people “for our freedom,” as he would say. I always felt free, I always felt like everyone in the world got along, I didn’t understand why he had to go out and fight, why he had to go out and risk his life.” She would inform me on how important it was, as an American, to contribute to our country and to do my part as a citizen. My grandfather served in the army. What could I do?…

My dad had gotten very sick. The doctors found a tumor in his large intestine. Hearing that, I felt like my whole life crashed before my eyes. My dad was such a good man that sometimes I thought why something so bad, would happen to such a good person. Doctors told him he needs surgery immediately, so dad had no other choice. He went into surgery and my mom and I were there by his side the whole time. Dad needed to stay in the hospital for a full week after surgery so we each took turns staying with him. I would come from school and go to dad, and mom would leave to work. We would take turns. This hardship was difficult for me to bare. My dad didn’t really speak any good English yet at that time, so I had to be there for him and translate everything. I knew I had to help him out. Hospital days were long. I remember sitting in a chair near my dad’s hospital bed and seeing all the nurses come in and out of his room. They were all so sweet and caring. They were all trying their best to get my dad to heal faster and get better. I remember sitting there and thinking to myself, how exhilarating it is to work as a nurse and make a difference in someone’s life every single day. From that day on, I have always wanted to become a nurse. I decided that I was going to study nursing so that I would be able to make a difference in people’s lives one day. Ever since I was a little girl, I have always enjoyed helping people. Whether it was helping my classmates with homework, helping my mom around the house, or helping my dad with translating. I always did it from the heart. I truly think that serving others is my passion and my calling in life. I went to my counselor in high school and told her that I wanted to do running start. She gladly signed me up for it. I did it for two years by taking prerequisites for the nursing program at Everett Community…
