Importance of Military Equipment
The Importance of Keeping Accountability of Sensitive Items Sensitive items are those items which are attractive for personnel use, attraction to the wrong kind of people who like to steal sensitive items, (for example weapons, Military Identification Cards, Thumb Drives, and military equipment), and the equipment can be very hazardous. Therefore, it requires a greater degree of control and accountability. If a military personnel were to lose accountability of a military weapon, that weapon could make it’s way over to the enemies hands on where they can duplicate and get ideas on how the our weapons are made and make even better ones. With Thumb Drives there can be top secret information about the military, for example, dates of deployments, how many personnel is in a platoon, and etc. Not securing and keeping accountability of sensitive items can acquire the risk of loss by being intercepted by unauthorized persons. The purpose of this essay is to provide knowledge to people who are serving in the military of why it is very important to have accountability of sensitive items. One of the main sensitive item that I think is very important to keep accountability for is the military identification card. There are many reasons on why military personnel and civilian employees should keep accountability and know where their military identification is placed at all times. Really, the truth is that a person should have their Identification card on them in their uniform, wallet, or where ever they feel comfortable on keeping it. That is defiantly something that I did fail to do for PT yesterday morning. Instead of having my Identification card on my arm in my arm band, it was sitting on top of a locker. Therefore, resulting for me to miss out on about 20 minutes of PT. With all the kind of stuff that is going on in the world today, there is no telling what might happen if a military identification or any kind of identification is placed into hands of a

    The definition of sensitive items is anything that considered classified or a mission essential item. They range anywhere from protective wear, maps, patrol routes, nods (night vision goggles) or simply your weapon. The meaning of securing your sensitive items mainly is maintaining accountability for opsec (operation security), mission success and a soldiers overall readiness. If an item is lost and the enemy gets his/her hands on that item it could compromise the mission at hand or give them intelligence on the items we as soldiers use each day. Using habits and exercising the securing of sensitive items will make it possible for the soldier and his or her team to operate at the top performance. Operational security is process that denied valuable information to an enemy. If an enemy were to obtain the presented it could be used against our forces. Not securing sensitive items increases the risk of loss by being intercepted by unauthorized personnel. Every soldier must maintain accountability and positive control of all sensitive material to allow full use by them and anyone involved with the mission at hand while still maintaining operational security. Operational security can be compromised through the loss of sensitive items due to loss of equipment used for operational planning, or items used for support missions. Also depending on the type of sensitive item that is being classified it could fall under a different level of security as it is deemed so by the U.S. Government. The levels included in the term classified are restricted (public disclosure could have undesirable effects or do some harm), confidential (unauthorized disclosure could damage national security example would be compromising information that indicates the strength of armed forces or disclosure of technical information about weapons), secret (unauthorized disclosure could seriously damage national security) and top secret (unauthorized disclosure could…
