Mock Trial: The People vs. Jack Merridew
Bailiff: Silence in the court! All rise! All persons having business be for the Honorable Judge Schenk, the Supreme Court of Britain, are admonished to draw near and give their attention, for the court is now in session. Calling the matter of the people versus Jack Merridew in the charges of attempted murder in the 1st degree, manslaughter in the 1st degree, and manslaughter in the 2nd degree.

Judge: Very well. Please be seated. How does the defendant plea?

Defense: Not guilty, your honor.

Judge: Very well. We will begin with the opening statements. Ms Alli, if you please. Defense: Your Honor, ladies and gentlemen of the jury. The night of Simon's death the boys were having a party to celebrate Jack's new tribe, and their successful hunt. They were in the middle of a ceremonial dance, and chant when a dark shape stumbled out of the forest screaming. The boys had recently gone to the top of the mountain and thought they saw the beast. So when a dark shape came out of the forest, they thought it was the beast. They became scared and in self defense attacked the shape. It ran and started screaming, but the gathering had turned to chaos so they couldn’t hear what it was saying. They chased it to the shore of the beach, and used spears to kill it.
Jack was only with his tribe for couple of days, and he didn’t mention to any of his group to kill anyone from Ralph’s tribe. He wouldn’t have been able to plan a murder in such a short time. There was no reason for him to want to kill Simon, he seldom spoke and never really defied jack, and he wasn’t a threat like Ralph.
He didn’t mention harming anyone, his tribe just gotten a pig and they were celebrating. It was an innocent party, it was night and they could not see when Simon ran out of the forest. They killed him because they thought he was the beast, they were confused; it could not have been a pre-planned murder.

During chapters 9-12, Ralph and Jack reach their utter desperation point which results in them trying to kill each other to again their pride and power back. Towards the end of the book Jack became extremely dangerous and aggressive due to the lack of civilization. "Jack made a rush and stabbed Ralph's chest with his spear," (Pg 177). Throughout the fight for pride and power at the end of the book, Jack is determined to prove his strength and bravery by trying to kill Ralph. I believe he does this for two reasons; because of his utter hate and disregard for Ralph and how he treated him like a child and how he needed to prove that Ralph was weak to the other boys on the island. The lack of rules, orders and regulations caused Jack to think there were no laws to…

In the state court case verse Roger “The Dodger” Smith and Jack Merridew was a very intriguing case. I have decided that Roger “The Dodger” Smith is guilty for both accounts of murder. In addition, Jack is also guilty, for the murder of Simon, but not the murder of Piggy. Murders should never be taken lightly, even if its accidental, you must fully investigate what happened on that day.…

The prosecution's is boring and they say no one has the right to kill someone, the defense could provide one person to say Carl Lee Hayley was insane and he was a convicted felon. Then comes jakes; He starts by apologizing for his little experience ands says to decide with your heart. He proceeds to tell them a story; “Close your eyes. Imagine a little girl walking home from the grocery store when two men pull over in a truck and snatch her up, tie her up, and rip her clothes from her body one after another repeatedly raping her. Then, when they are done use her for target practice tearing all of her flesh to the bones, urinate on her, then comes the hanging. The branch is too weak and she falls back to the earth. They pick her up take her to Foggy Creek bridge and throw her off the edge, falling 30 feet she hits the bottom. Broken body soaked in their urine, their semine, and her blood. As we age we lose the thrill of imagination, the value of it. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding this very much happens when pre-teen boys crash on an island. The longer they stay on the island less we see of them when the first crashed on the island. The boy’s actions and beliefs turn from innocence to corrupt. In the book there are many examples of innocence to corruption these are the examples of Jack, blank, and blank.…

The first was over the meaning of specific words (and even comma placement) in the jury instructions. The second was over which witness was more trustworthy or reliable. The first debate, and the most interesting to me, centered on the wording of the jury instructions. Many of the instructions were vague and open to a wide variety of interpretations. A phrase that we focused on during our deliberations was “made known his desire for peace by word or act.” There is no set law for what defines a word or act that makes known the desire for peace. The words and acts that make known this desire are subject to the will of the jury. In this case, Miller attempted to leave the room after being shouted at and accused of cheating. I believed this to be an act that made known his desire for peace, however, not all of my fellow jurors felt the same way. After a heated debate on the sentence, we decided to grant the benefit of the doubt to Miller and say it showed his desire for peace. Another phrase that we debated was “That such stabbing was with intent to kill or permanently maim, disfigure or disable Troy Counts.” We were unsure if the word “permanently” only described maim or if it was describing the words disfigure or disable, as well. If it described all three we would rule out malicious and unlawful stabbing but if it did not we would leave unlawful stabbing as an option for his conviction. In the end, we…

It’s the hottest day of the year in New York City, and 12 clammy men, who were put on a jury, are locked into a room, where the fan doesn’t work and the windows stick, to discuss the case of an 18 year old accused of murder. In the opening scene, the judge states that is it a first degree murder and if found guilty the teenager will receive the death penalty. The 18 year old is accused of killing his father with a “one of a kind” switch blade. The 12 jurors must decide if there is enough evidence to convict the teen of murder. When the initial vote is taken it is 11-1. The one vote for not guilty is juror eight, whose real name is Davis. He is a well-spoken man, wore a suit and tie and had his dark hair slicked back for the trial. Davis admits that he doesn’t know if the teen is innocent but says he could be. In the movie 12 Angry Men, Juror eight shows true justice…

He has also selected himself to be chief of this new tribe. When branching off from Ralph Jack had not thought of how they are going to create a fire for warmth, they needed Piggy’s glasses. Jack being the aggressive and ruthless person he decides to get all of the choir boys and go and invade their tribe and take the glasses for themselves. This makes Ralph mad because unlike Jack he would've just given them the glasses had they asked for it before attacking them. Either way during the fight one of the eyeholes in the glasses was shattered, breaking the glasses to the point that they can now only use one eyehole to start fires. This shows us that Jack has become more savage like because if he was more civilized he would've just asked Ralph to borrow the glasses. Later, after Jack has successfully killed a pig, he welcomes the boys Ralph's tribe to join him. While they were arguing, Simon slips away and ventures off to a little clearing in the forest where he passes out, most likely from dehydration and from a lack of nutrients. When he wakes he has dried blood down his face from what looks like a nose bleed. He goes back down to the beach to join the rest of the boys. While Simon was off in the forest, the other boys started a “ritual,” this included creating a huge fire and painting their faces, and bodies. They are becoming more savage…

    Twelve Angry Men Plot

Plot: "Twelve Angry Men" is an interesting and exciting jury-room confrontation in which an "open and shut case" becomes strenuous as twelve strangers scuffle for answers. The trial involves a nineteen-year-old boy, who is suspect of killing his father in a late-night altercation with an extraordinary knife. His fate now lies in the hands of 12 jurors, each with his own determination to solve the case and reveal the truth. As the session takes its course, evidence becomes scrutinised, tempers rise, and the jury room erupts in a shouting brawl because one such juror finds reasonable doubts in the two testimonies that were deemed credible enough to convict. In his fight for an acquittal, the singled out juror found that the testimonial evidence was not only unreliable, but the timely fashion in which both the man and the woman alleged to have seen and heard the defendant were by far insufficient. Upon reaction to his vote, the dubious jurors immediately began questioning the man, not understanding how he could possibly think that way. Nevertheless, the adamant juror held his ground and the votes were: 11 guilty, and 1 not guilty, but the decision had to be unanimous.…

Furthermore, Golding exemplified the boys’ moral atrophy when they violently “leapt on the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore.” Possessed by a frenzy of energy, the boys ignored the words Simon was trying to tell them, and while concluding that he was “the beast” they atrociously and savagely murdered him. After realizing who they had really murdered, the boys tried to forget about the incident and act as though it didn’t happen. However, in spite of their indifference to the incident, through Simon’s death, Golding portrayed how much the boys had changed without the rules of civilization. Moreover, by killing Simon who had constantly remained moral symbolized a natural goodness; Golding…

“12 Angry Men” focuses on a jury’s deliberations in a capital murder case. A 12-man jury is sent to begin deliberations in the first-degree murder trial of an 18-year-old Latino accused in the stabbing death of his father, where a guilty verdict means automatic death sentence. The case appears to be open-and-shut: The defendant has a weak alibi; a knife he claimed to have lost is found at the murder scene; and several witnesses either heard screaming, saw the killing or the boy fleeing the scene. Eleven of the jurors immediately vote guilty; only Juror No.8 (Mr. Davis) casts a not guilty vote.…
