MAXIMUM RIDE:
THE FINAL WARNING

“They can save themselves, but can they save the planet?”
BY: JAMES PATTERSON The novel that I’ve read—Maximum ride: The Final Warning, by James Patterson is the fourth book in the series of Maximum Ride. The story is very detailed, and also very thrilling with an amazing climax. There are several main characters in this story: Iggy, Angel, Fang, Maximum—or Max, Nudge, Gasman—or as he preferred—Gazzy, and finally their dog—Total. Now these aren’t regular kids, and their dog isn’t very regular either. They were created in a lab, and had special abilities, but their major skill is that they all have wings, and they can all fly—except Total, his wings are still growing as he just got them. The flock—as they called their group has escaped from the lab they were originally created at called “The School”, and they were also unsure of their own ages. The story doesn’t have just one specific plot, but instead the author has made it very interesting, and the flock has travelled all around the world for safety reasons. However, in this particular novel, their main setting is in Antarctica. The flock travel to Antarctica to solve a major real life problem that still exists—global warming. In Antarctica the flock gets kidnapped and had been brought in Miami for evil purposes. As they escape from Miami, they find out that the city has been evacuated due to an expected category 4-5 hurricane—and it wasn’t even the hurricane season. Later on they find out that all this is due to global warming, and at the novel ends as Max—the flock leader—makes a public speech on global warming, with high security, so no one can capture them again.

This book along with its series is nothing like I’ve ever read, seen, or heard about, and that is the reason why this book is very interesting. However as reading this book, I’ve come to realize that this story has several connections, and relations with my personal life. Out of many of these personal experiences, the most common one is that just as the entire flock; I’ve had to face new challenges every single day.
During this ISU project, the most challenging part for me was ‘The Journal’. The main reason why this was challenging for me was because, when I mentioned the characters along with their backgrounds, and their challenges, it was challenging for me to not mention those certain challenges, and try not to expose the entire story, and the ending. Also it was challenging to talk about the book four of the series with the audience knowing about book one up till book three. To overcome this challenge, I simply thought of the story in the audience’s point of view, meaning that I wrote it in a way that the audience would find surprising, and exciting, which would make them want to read the book. Thinking as the audience was a huge help rather than thinking like a writer.
The one thing I was really prepared for was the book talk. And this is mostly because I thought it would be easier, and more dramatic to express myself about the novel, to an audience, which in hoping they would be interested in the book, and they would enjoy reading. The main strategy I used was really get into the detail, and really express myself to make it a bit more interesting. The other strategy I used for the book talk was preparing me for the public speaking. However, if I had to redo this ISU project, I would start sooner, and read the first novel in the series, instead of the middle book in the series.

Since 1993, Safe Rides has been providing the Elon student body an invaluable service by offering late-night transportation Thursdays through Saturday. While Safe Rides is currently able to transport just under 2,000 students a month, there is a rising trend in demand resulting in wait-times that consistently surpass three hours. During the 2016-2017 academic year Safe Rides has already successfully integrated an additional sedan to the fleet, yet even with the additional vehicle it has become evident that on nights with minimal volunteers and high call rates, it is a hardship to maintain timely transportation. To help diminish such delays, and to ensure that Safe Rides is providing the best possible service with the goal of protecting the well-being of Elon University’s student body, Safe Rides is actively pursuing the acquisition of a new six-passenger van. With the addition of another six-passenger van (increasing our six-passenger fleet to 3), there would be greater efficiency and a substantial increase in the number of Elon students Safe Rides is able to transport each night.…

Lord of the Flies by William Golding is the story of a group of children who crash land on a tropical island during the time period of World War II. Throughout the novel, Golding uses Biblical allusions and irony to show the disintegration, loss of society and humanity. Some of the Biblical allusions that Golding uses alludes Simon to Jesus, the Lord of the Flies to Satan, and the island itself to the Garden of Eden. Golding’s use of irony appears several times; first when the fire destroys the boys civility but then ends up being what allows them to be rescued; again when they feared an imagined beast; and lastly in the way Piggy is widely disliked and mistreated, even though his spectacles are crucial to the group's survival.…

This novel is about a group of school boys who get trapped on an island. This novel is an allegory, this means that behind this story there is a moral to be learnt, or a hidden meaning. The author tells us that a so called “paradise island” can really be hell. Jack, a key character in the story, has a role in Lord Of The Flies, as the oldest one and the one who likes to be in charge. At the beginning he has a choir, although he decided they were to become hunters and what he does next shows cruelty and violence.…

Nobody knows where they are, and their only hope of getting off the island is to send signals and survive for themselves. The fruit that grows on the island isn't edible, and they eat vegetables and fish. There are many themes in this book, and one of them is Survival and Rescue. There are two main leaders on the island, and they have different interpretations of survival. Ralph believes that the group should build shelters and build a fire and send signals and try to be rescued, but Jack believes the group should hunt and kill pigs for meat and have fun on the island.…
