4. A rugby player of mass 70kg and running at 7m/s tackles a stationary player of mass 80kg and grabs hold of him. At what speed are the combined players moving after the collision?
5. A force of 2N is applied to an initially stationary trolley of mass 5kg for 2s.
i) Calculate the impulse applied to the trolley. ii) Calculate the trolley’s final speed.
6. A force is applied for 3s to a stationary rock of mass 12kg. The rock reaches a speed of 6m/s. What was the size of the force?
7. A ball of mass 0.2kg moving at 3m/s hits a stationary ball of mass 0.3kg. After the collision the 0.2kg ball continues to move in the same direction at 1m/s. How fast is the other ball travelling?
8. Oscar is in a stationary boat. He jumps out of the boat onto the jetty at 6m/s. Due to action and reaction, the boat moves backwards in the opposite direction to him as he jumps. At what speed does the boat move away if the mass of Oscar is 60kg and the mass of the boat is 120kg?
