Moonrise Kingdom
The plotline of Moonrise Kingdom is truly unique. Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two twelve year olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away into the wilderness. The movie takes place on a small island off of New England in 1965. As Sam and Suzy are running away a violent storm is coming their way, putting the two kid’s life in danger. The little island is turned completely around in many different ways. The adults and khaki scouts go on a search for them. During the movie the director makes it seem like the only people on the island are those who are involved in the story. Moonrise Kingdom can be related to Twilight. In Twilight when they encounter difficulties they always plan to run away somewhere they know they will be safe and comfortable. In Moonrise Kingdom, Sam and Suzy do that. They make a pact to run away together because they feel comfortable with each other.
Scoutmaster Randy Ward (Edward Norton) was informed about Sam leaving when they were eating breakfast and his seat was empty. The whole Khaki Scout group went to his tent to then realize he left a note saying he had left. From the reaction of the group, you realize that they do not really like Sam. They were advised to go looking for him and they were preparing weapons for when they found him. Sam had a hard time making friends because they thought he was weird. Sam was believed to be emotionally disturbed. Sam and Suzy had a lot in common when it came to how people see them. Suzy’s family thought she was a “troubled” child with secretive and an aggressive attitude. You can tell Suzy is a little different based on what she carries around with her. When we see her in the beginning of the movie we see her packing her cat, some books to read, and her binoculars. She stands on top of their lighthouse and by using the binoculars spots her mom and Captain Sharp having an affair. You can tell she knows something that she shouldn’t, that bothers her. They both bonded over being
