My Hardworking Sister
My Hardworking Sister My sister is very a hardworking person. First of all, she worked 30-34 hours a week, now she works full time. She works at two Resource centers, in McCloud and Dunsmuir. She helps anyone who calls or comes in to the office. A lot of the time she is the only one in the front office so, she has to take care of everything that needs to be done. Almost every month she has to work on a Saturday to attend a training or event. Additionally there are some evenings such as Family fun night, meetings, or trainings. Second she has been going to college to get her Early Childhood Education degree. She has been taking 20 units each semester for the last two years. Her classes have been in the evenings and online which include teleconferencing and classes on the Weed campus. For one of her classes she had to observe a preschool student eight hours a week for a whole semester. This last June 2010 she graduated from College of the Siskiyous with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Finally, she is opening a daycare. She is turning her home into a daycare center. There has been a lot of paperwork, background checks, and procedures that have to be completed. A lot of time has been spent on the licensing procedures. Her home has to be childproof. Also she is giving up a lot of her privacy because there is going to be lots of people in and out of her house all day during the week. After all this she won’t be working for anyone else. She will now be responsible for the income she gets. There will no longer be any sick days, vacations, or a flexible work schedule. I know her business is going to be one of the sole proprietorships that “make it”. When her daycare opens up she will help children become productive citizens. She really cares about kids and will be a great teacher. All her hardwork that she has done is going to pay

She works as a ‘live in’ nanny and finds this situation difficult. She is very independent, raised her 3 boys by herself and finds it difficult to settle in another family`s life. She is keen to adapt and accommodate but wants to have a bit of ‘own space’. The parenting style of the family she lives with is very different from hers and she finds it difficult to see where her limits are: in which case she has to do what was being told and when she can make or ask for some changes. She wants to be a good employee but wants to be able say out loud what she thinks, believes, especially when it is about the little ones’ interest.…

Having two older sisters who didn’t make it through high school and is living from paycheck to paycheck and job to job is a struggling experience to witness. Without a college degree, you’re at the bottom of the hire list and the top of the fire list. My sister landed an amazing job at a daycare facility in a low income area. She was so thrilled because this was the first job in 4 years that she wasn’t making minimum wage. She quit her two fast food jobs and immediately started at the daycare. After about 3 months, she was laid off. They had just recently hired a lady with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and although you can’t fire someone because another person better applied for the job, they simply said it was evaluation related. She came home crying because she had to find another job fast. She doesn’t have any credit cards, savings accounts, or even extra “pocket” money from getting paid. After that dispiriting week, she said seriously, “Aliyah, don’t follow in my footsteps. Be the best you can. Not just for you but for your future.” A role model can come with many different stories and…

A personal favorite of mine, the book My Sister’s Keeper, was beautifully crafted to tug at the heartstrings of the reader. The author, Jodi Picoult, writes about a family, or more specifically a young girl (Kate), battling cancer. The protagonist Anna Fitzgerald, is only thirteen years old during the main conflict described in the book. She is posed with a harrowing decision. She has two options: Firstly, to willingly donate her kidney to her ill sister or, to fight the claim that her sister is entitled to her kidney. The author describes Anna’s life tragically. She was born in a test tube for one sole purpose; to anatomically gift her sister with healthy tissue etc. Eventually the task becomes too much. Anna ultimately comes to the…

Although movies are entertaining and maintain the viewers’ interest, they are known for changing the original plot, lacking in character development and not demonstrating the theme of “understanding others” to the fullest. This movie in particular, has a completely different ending, lacks almost any sort of insight into the characters’ thoughts and lives and does not show enough compassion between the characters. The book, entitled, My Sister’s Keeper by author Jodi Picoult, does a better job of developing these three aspects than the movie “My Sister’s Keeper” by director Nick Cassavetes does, based on the comprehension of the text and the observation of the film.…
