My Name Is AnnTrelleasha Toniece Smith
My name is AnnTrelleasha Toniece Smith. My mom told me she put all the great people that helped create me into my name which made me great, and I believe her because I am a great person. I love to write. I write poetry and I write short stories, but as much as I love to write, I love to read. I read everything. There is not a genre I don’t like. I also love music. I play piano and guitar and I’m learning to play the viola, and so far I like the viola better. The way you can move/sway as you move the bow is so magical. You can make the audience feel your emotions without saying anything. You can just sway and play and let the music take you away from everything which is amazing considering I live in Memphis where the violence is overpowering all the good here, and the struggle to get away is real but that goal is hard because people are always putting you down because you are a girl or because you are wack or simply because you don’t have as much money as others.
I hardly watch T.V. because I love to read and if I’m not reading I’m playing basketball so I can work on a scholarship, so I can go to college because if I don’t get an academic scholarship, which I will, then I could get an athletic scholarship, but the athletic scholarship is just my plan B.
I’m the oldest out of five children and I love my siblings clearly and I hope that determination would push them to get away from the type of society we live in. I hope that becomes their goal when they are old enough to care because I would hate to see them struggle. I would hate for them to be categorized as something they could have clearly avoided.
My interest in math and science started back when I was in third grade, I think that’s because I knew a little bit more then. I enjoy both subjects because they are both challenges and me being a competitor, I love challenges because they show my determination which is one of my best qualities. I never liked a specific type of math or science better than any other

One thing I’ve always been proud of is that my name is unique. That is, anyone who shares my last name of ‘Obsniuk’ is related to me. That’s because the name comes from my great-grandfather who came over to America from Romania with his family. Their family name was ‘Obleznik’, but to Americanize so they could get jobs and such they changed it to ‘Obsniuk’, a wholly unique surname. Now, every time someone asks me if I’m related to someone with the name Obsniuk, I proudly tell them this story.…

I like math because most of the time the answers are straight forward. I don’t like having to explain myself. I dislike how long it takes to actually solve a problem and I also dislike how long math work can be. My most favorite math experience probably had to be Geometry last year. I understood it well and I was really good at it. To add to that, it was my favorite because I hardly ever had to study. I usually retained the information and my teacher taught the lessons well. I haven’t had a math class I dislike yet. I usually get an A in my math classes because I try to complete all of my work and tests with high grades or points. Before this school year, I would spend thirty minutes max to finish my math homework. This school…

I love reading, as it allows me to escape from any troubles or stress I have in “real life.” If I am upset or stressed, all I need to do is find a book or start writing. I sometimes like to write stories, however, around the middle of the story I become bored with writing and usually shorten it about 5 chapters. I do not really read many adventure books. I like realistic fiction that I can relate to and funny stories. I also enjoy reading manga. The thing I love most about writing poetry is that there are no limits. You are not chained to the laws of grammar and standard conventions. I aspire to become a better writer and reader, although I do not want to choose that as my profession. I do plan to still write and read as a hobby,…

I have been interested in science and math since I was reading books with science experiments in second grade. Applying math and science skills to solve everyday problems has intrigued me from an early age. I am always curious about how things work. Since taking AP Physics this year, I have been able to appreciate how math and science work together. I have taken other rigorous courses, but often it felt like learning math was isolated from other coursework. Math challenges me to problem solve and think at a higher level. I also love science, but until I took AP Physics my science classes were too easy. The labs in freshmen and sophomore science were enjoyable, but I never got a sense of how they connected to other concepts in Biology and Chemistry.…

I was supposed to be named Rachel. It was a compromise, my mother told me, from what my dad had picked: Raquel. Growing up, I had a friend named Rachel that was nothing like me: soft, composed, and the sweetest smile. As it is hebrew, the name comes from the biblical name meaning “O Beautiful One” or “female sheep”. While this is nice and all, it was much more fitting for my friend. Never could or would I pick the animal the sheep to describe myself.…

As a child, I constantly had my nose in a book. Reading came quite naturally to me, Jane Robinson, and I still carry that passion today. As I grew, I gained another passion; writing. Elementary started my passion through the teachers making the class journal about their lives. These journals helped me to learn to write down my thoughts and keep track of them in chronological order. Writing continues to be a vital part of my education that I enjoy.…
