This portfolio assignment will focus on one of many things. Firstly we will discuss communication and media semiotics, particularly focusing on the six functions of a sign, paying particular attention to the listed signs; referential, expressive, poetic, metalinguistic, conative and phatic. We will make particular use of a visual example to discuss the six functions of the sign. Further to this we will explore textual analysis, with application to a visual example. We will make reference to a television sitcom and write an essay in which the narrative content and the episode is analysed.
