Paragraph About Wrestling
After months of preparation and dedicating all of your free time to the sport, January 24 you finally get the one moment that all of your hours of practice have led up to. At the wrestling GAC there is one major difference between the wrestlers who train all year for this one moment and the ones who wait until the last minute; the feeling of the medal around your neck at the end of the day. 4:30 A.M., the morning of January 24, you wake up on this day knowing that you either have a really good day or very disappointing day ahead of you. We arrive at the tournament around 8:00 still not quite awake, as soon as you enter you can smell the concession stand beginning to make food for the long day ahead. As we enter the gym to begin practice the …show more content…
We are all sore from our first 3 or four matches and from sitting on bleachers all day without being able to move much. Unfortunately, most of us, if we have won all of our matches so far, still have one remaining. The match that will decide if you get first and move on to the next tournament, or get second and go home in shame. I have waited all day for this match and even though I was relaxed at some points was still nervous for it since I had woken up. Scoring in wrestling is typically an easy thing to do if you are fairly good. All you must do is escape or perform a takedown to score 2 points. At the end of the allotted six minutes of my finals match the score was only 2-2. We had to go into overtime where the first person to score points won. I had won the coin toss so I got to pick my position. By this point I had already figured out my opponents weaknesses and also realized that he was much more tired than I was. I chose to be in the bottom position knowing that I would have a fairly easy time escaping. Right before the whistle was blown to begin I decided that to win I would have to do something unpredictable that many people don’t do often. As the whistle blew I immediately arched my back towards the ceiling and stayed that way until my opponent moved. His first instinct was to try to grab my arm and pull me back down, this mistake is what won me the tournament. As he grabbed my arm I swiftly kicked up into

Wrestling is tough, it is a sport much from its participants, but if one has the courage to step out on the mat dressed in a uniform that leaves a little imagination and challenge another human to a match to see who the better man is. Danger can be found in every sport, and wrestling are no more prone to injury’s to soccer, football, track stars, lacrosse. Wrestling creates a sense of accountable for one’s actions. Those that work hard, succeed. There is no one to hide behind; every flaw and mistake is brought forth in a match. It takes a great deal of mental toughness and sacrifice nights with friends for extra practice and consideration, favorite food to lose the extra pound, and sleep when one needs to wake up at 4am to go for a run before school begins. That competitive nature of clashing with another human being creates a sense of community within the wrestling world. Those that have never participated in the sport have a tough time understanding this. Opponents’ must shake hands before and after, showing respect for the other fighter, win or lose. It is uncommon to see administration in the form of an embrace even after one has lost a tough battle. These values are created through combative sports, and stay with a wrestle for the remainder of their…

My wrestling journey through Camanche started at a young age. It was my kindergarten year and the class was getting flyers passed out to sign up for a series of different winter sports. I took the form home to my Dad and asked him if I could wrestle. Wrestling was a new sport to my family, for nobody wrestled before me. From that point on started attending wrestling…

It started just as any normal Saturday would; December 8, 2012, I woke up, went through my morning routine and went to soccer practice. I was competing for a spot on the North Carolina ODP (Olympic Development Program) soccer team. Training was being held at fields about two hours from my house. I sat in the backseat of my dad’s car with my two sisters and as we rode to the fields I began to mentally prepare myself for how I would play my best and make the team.…

Commitment is key to success in anything in life, no matter the activity involved. There are many activities for students to become involved in, some of which are sports. At my high school, the wrestling team has a special club for only the most committed wrestlers. Our coach calls this club the stud club, it encompases the ten wrestlers who show a desire to be something great. . After becoming part of the club, the ten wrestlers are given a shirt with a special logo on the front to wear as a badge of honor. I have had the luxury of being in the stud club for the past three years of my high school career. While it may not be an astounding accomplishment to anyone who isn’t a Fairmont wrestler, it’s a tremendous feat for one of us.…

My shoulders blazed from the beating sun and my palms were sweaty. I walked confidently toward the green as the other athletes were waiting on me. I was playing toward what looked like an amateur's ideal score, a 45. It was the first home golf match of the year, and I could not afford to score any higher than my goal. I had to make sure my mind didn’t mess up more shots than my body.…

Intro: its 4th and 5 score zero to zero, and I’m on defense. Coaches are giving signals and linebackers are calling the play. They called the play where I get to blitz the quarterback. “Poor kid’s is going to have to take ibuprofen after I knocked him out of his cleats” I thought before the snap. And that’s what I did. Lowered my helmet then I made him take a rest if you know what I mean, and I heard it wasn’t pretty. (At least for him anyways) but it ended up being the other team winning 8-0. So I was kind of disappointed that we lost, but the hit made up for it.…

I was seeded 7th out of 21 kids. I had to wrestle a very tough kid my first match. Considering this was my first match of the district tournament, the nerves kicked in. My full potential was not shown in my first match and I walked away with a loss. The tournament wasn’t over and I had to keep my head up even though I knew losing again wasn’t an option. After an hour or so went by, it was time for my second match. The kid I had to wrestle wasn’t ranked and had a losing record so I assumed I could win. I went in with a positive mindset and came out victorious. I pinned him with 27 seconds left in the first period. With that win, I move on to the second day of the tournament. When the first day of wrestling is over, you have to option to weigh out that night or weigh in the next morning. I really wanted to eat that night so I chose to weigh out. Little did I know I was 4 pounds over. So after an hour of running I made weight and was able to eat that night. Laying in bed that night, I knew that tomorrow could be my last day wrestling all year. I had to give it my all. The next morning, we left the wrestling complex at 5:45 so we could be there by 7. Everyone slept the whole way there. After we all checked in, it was time to start warming up. I got a good sweat going in the warm up and felt confident. At about ten o’clock, it was time for my first match. I wrestled hard and walked away with the win. If I won my next match, I was going to the state wrestling…

I got down early and he kept pushing the pace going into the third period I was down 6-1. I chose top, I quickly turned him to his back for a five count and got three points. We kept wrestling and i turned him again, but the ref messed up and only gave me two points so we were going into overtime. He shot in on my leg, but I slammed his head to the mat as hard as I could. It came down to this if I could just spin around and get the takedown I would go to state. I rammed my fist across his face trying to get him to break his grip he didn't let up. I did it again, this time harder I could hear the bone on bone grinding together and he gave up. I spun around and won. I lost 4-2 in the finals to the number one kid in the state, but I was okay with that. At state i was ranked 4th but wrestled bad and got 6th. But I felt like I was a state champ I had accomplished something that I had worked very hard for and no one could take that away from…

During my sophomore year I was wrestling and I was on track to qualify for state I was beating many good people; in December, at one tournament I was wrestling and I ended up breaking my thumb. After I broke my thumb I was out for about three months so that hurt me really bad. It was hard for me to train while I had my cast off, but after I got it off I had a week before regionals to get ready and I had about ten pounds to lose and it would be hard for me to qualify for state. Once I got to regionals I started wrestling I was doing good I won my first two matches by pin; then in my semi finals match I was wrestling against the number one seed and he was pretty tough. While I was wrestling him I started off good and was beating six to two,…
