Personal Narrative: My Experience Of Becoming A Nurse
All I could hear was " Push! Push! Push! Come on sweetie you got this! ", shortly followed by the uninterrupted cries coming from the small bundle of joy my sister had just given birth too. The room seemed to go quiet and everything still. As I looked around, everything that was once moving in such a fast pace began to slow down. I couldn't believe what I had just witnessed. It was an experience that was breathtaking, so beautiful, and life changing. There were no words to describe my feelings. This was real life. At that moment, I knew one day I had to be in that nurses position. I knew I wanted to be able to experience that feeling everyday with all the excited and nervous mothers . It seemed like I had just come face to face with my calling. I couldn't believe what was happening on what I thought was just a regular day. …show more content…

During the summer I worked at a nursing home to gain some experience in the healthfield. Working as a certified nursing assistant really helped me grow and it is one of the most rewarding jobs I’ve had, it also was very challenging at times. As I said before I struggle with anxiety, but working as a nursing assistant pushed me to overcome some of the fears I had of communicating. I learned really quick when working in a nursing home you strongly need the ability to have good communication skills because without it you can’t communicate with the charge nurses, the residents or the other C.N.A’s. Everyday that I worked there I used different forms of communications such as body language which I learned says a lot about what a person is feeling.…

I went into her class my sophomore year of high school scared and not knowing what to expect. Mrs. Holder taught me everything that I needed to know for the next level of classes. Once I got accepted into her nursing fundamentals class to become a nurse assistant, she gave me clear instructions of how to master each and every skill needed to past my exam and get certified as an NA. Because of Mrs. Holder, today I am the best NA I could have become. I am also proud to say that I am working as an NA at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in their trauma ICU and I got accepted…

When I was thinking about writing this journal post a particular experiences came into my head. I pushed it aside for the fact that it didn't fit the criteria for this journal. However, after struggling trying with writer's block, I gave in to my original thought. My enthusiasm for nursing first took root and flourished after losing my father. My father became very ill and needed medical care. When I saw that my father was starting to become weak and frail, I thought to myself "What access would my father have to good quality health care?" I asked my mother "Where is the nearest hospital?" and my mother replied, "It's about twenty miles away child." It was from that moment on I began to realize a desire to engage in a profession that focused on the area of helping sick people. As I lie there I remember the motion of my heart going “thump thump”, I remember the anxiousness that filled the room. I laid thinking that it felt like just yesterday I was outside riding my tricycle and now as of February 2012 my life would change from being any normal young adult to a young lady with a lot more responsibilities. The tears, and the joy took part in my mixed feelings and I just could not wait to see what the next step in life would be for me. Not many women can say that they have lived through that very special moment of childbearing or even labor, but I can tell you that seven months later I could not be anymore happier then I already am.…
