Personal Narrative: My First Track Race
Last year, my 400 m dash time decreased by nine seconds from the first track meet until the last. Never running in a track meet before, I was extremely nervous. Using the bathroom about five times, I felt like I was sick.
I was shaking terribly before the race started. I could not even set up my blocks. The assistant coach, Lindsey, set them up for me. I had totally forgotten how to. Even if I had remembered, I probably would not have been able to. I was shaking very badly.
I got into my blocks. When the gun went off, my heart jumped and I started sprinting. I started off too fast then I could barely finish. I worried too much about people passing me that I did not realize that I did not have enough energy in me to finish the race. I could barely even move for the last 100 meters.
I almost collapsed, but I pushed myself so that I would not stop. I literally walked across the finish line. My time was 1:16.
I went up to my coach sighing, "I'm sorry."

"Thank you for having faith in me," I weakly said.
"You could get far in track if you stick with this race," He assured me.
"I don't plan on quitting anytime soon, " I laughed.
The best time I ran that year was 1:07 in the 1 mile relay at the Skyline Central Conference. My time had decreased by a total of 9 seconds. I even made it to U.P. Finals in both the 400 m dash and the 1 mile relay. My goal is to beat the school record for the 400 m dash. It would be difficult, but I believe that anything is possible.
Running track is my passion. If I have faith, I know that I can be the school record. I just want to have a fun time running track while I can. My passion can help me become a highly successful teen, by building my confidence as well as helping me stay in

    There were many times I wanted to quit or give up but I didn’t even though I really wanted to at points. I remember the last three meets, they were the best. They were in Shenandoah, Atlantic, then Clarinda. Shenandoah was my favorite course i'm not sure why maybe it was the trees and the paths we had to run of were fun, it was shady most of the places and filled with plants and trees on a dirt path. At Atlantic it was pouring rain all day and when it came time for the middle schoolers to run it was muddy and people were falling at the start, everyone got super muddy and wet.     As I ran that hill I began to cry because of the pain. I thought my legs were going to give out from underneath me.     Later that night my mother told me that even if you don't succeed at first just give it time and practice and eventually you will thrive. The following year I went out for the team again and practiced each day, giving it my all remembering how to control my breathing and when to push through the pain.
