Personal Plan

To fulfill my personal, educational and career goals, I started at the University of Phoenix. Over the past few weeks of GEN/195 I have found my competencies and career interests will help guide me in my personal, academic journey a great deal. I believe achieving the obstacles of receiving my degree, will enhance the competencies I need for my future career as a police officer. I have already started enhancing those competencies by participating and completing the academic work throughout this course. Obtaining the results from the multiple questionnaires in my career plan and my personal ethics, will guide me in my academic journey as I work toward receiving my bachelor’s degree. My personal education and career goals go hand to hand in helping one another become achievable. I would love to walk the stage of University of Phoenix receiving my masters in criminal justice, first I have to start with receiving my bachelors. Setting goals for my bachelor’s degree becomes more attainable when I plan ahead which is the first step. Receiving dean’s list each semester is my motivation, the only way I see that happening is by keeping my grade at an A average. I am receiving the criminal justice degree to become a police officer, but I only want to do that career field for three to four years. My primary career goal is to become a homicide detective, and I know I must start somewhere so, attending school is my first step. Over the last four weeks I have been able to receive a better understanding of my strengths and weakness, by completing my career interest profiler and the career activities. My competencies displayed my strengths and weaknesses, which will help me choose my career interest to guide me in my personal, academic journey. My career interest profiler stated that I was social, enterprising and artistic. Majority of the career interests

The most important goal for my future is to obtain a satisfying career. Growing up I saw how unhappy my mother was working at a job that she hated just to make enough to provide for our family. I further understood how important a satisfying career was to me when I started working the graveyard shift as a dockworker during community college. I strongly disliked almost everything about the job including the exposure to extreme temperatures, the job’s filthy nature, the long and irregular hours, and most of all because it was unfulfilling. I was miserable with my occupation but I was dependent on it because it was lucrative and provided me with a way to support myself through college. I worked fulltime at this job for two years while also being a fulltime student until I transferred to SIU. The dread that I felt toward my job made me work harder academically because I knew that someday my hard work would amount to a career that I thoroughly…

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a police officer. I’m sure, as a little boy, what first caught my attention were the flashing lights and sirens on the police cars. It could have also been then the facts that police officer were permitted to carry a gun and had the ability to run red lights. This is why as I grew up and played games like cops and robbers, I was always the police officer. During my teenage years, I later joined the police explorer program and really started to learn about police work. That’s when I realized that a police officer was nothing like I thought. I started to understand the role of the police was not as a symbol of power, but one of peace. I started to understand that society needed law enforcement measures to uphold the laws that have been set for our city`s and county`s. I also learned that a police presence was the best tool in deterring crime and creating a safe environment for everyone. Police officers were in the community for all the right reasons, to educate us as children and educate our parents on safety. They were there when my friends and family needed them. Not only for the worse of times, but in the best as well. To me, police officer were my hero`s and I wanted to be one of them in order to be able to return to the community and provide the service and knowledge I’ve gained over the years of growing up pursuing my dreams of being a police officer.…

Career planning is important when developing career goals and outlining on how attain them. The career planning analysis does not give a precise picture of my current career choice. The personality assessment describes my traits as a people person, creative, and optimistic. These traits are an important factor when managing employees and creating a positive working environment (Desiderio, 2011).…

We all like to visualize where we would like to be, whether the vision is wanting to practise law or to become the biggest movie star. I have dreams of being a successful business owner or becoming a lawyer - whichever makes more sense to me in the future. Attending Queen’s University is the first step to achieving my dream. I hope to attend Queen’s this coming fall for either economics or computer science. Currently I am trying to make my vision of going to Queen’s become a reality by doing my best to keep my grades up in all of my classes and actively be a contributing member of society. After receiving my bachelors degree, depending on whether I choose the business path or law path, I plan on attending university for my master in business (MBA) or do a three year law degree. After finishing my schooling I hope to move to a city like Toronto, Montreal,or New York City as I believe I would have more opportunities to grow as a person and be able to secure better jobs. Another future goal of mine that is not school or career related is to own a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. To make this goal into a reality I need to ensure I follow through on my career goals. As you can see, I plan for many great things in the future. My main goal is to be someone I am proud of; to do it on my own and without anyone else's influence. My future goals are what keep me motivated to…

Law enforcement work has evolved greatly over the years - from its early introduction in Colonial America with the use of Sheriffs, who collected taxes and enforced colonial laws, to today’s sophisticated large and widespread local, state, and federal agencies. Relative to the evolvement of law enforcement work, the type of candidate that police agencies seek to fill these employment slots has also changed drastically. Today in the United States candidates for police officer positions are put through a rigorous and strict hiring process to ensure strong applicants are picked for the openings. The hiring process is lengthy and usually includes written and physical exams, oral boards, a background investigation, medical and psychological screenings, and a polygraph test. All these steps are designed to remove unsuitable applicants. I feel that I possess several character traits and leadership qualities that would help me as a sworn police officer and a leader. However, there are aspects of my personality that could be improved to better my chances at being successful in that particular line of work.…
