1. New and exciting challenges everyday. Children are unpredictable in their behavior and we as educators have to learn to deal with different behaviors during different situations. Hence, as an educator we face with different challenges and obstacles when confronting with children day in and day out.
2. Enhance children’s learning experience
Children cannot be taught the same teaching style in school. Lessons planned for them have to be creative and simple. As an educator, we have to plan their lessons and not make it a boring classroom style. There has to be activities, games, singing, dancing etc. This is one of the aspects of the profession that have interested me the most in my decision in becoming an early childhood educator
3. The foundation to a child’s future.
Early child education plays an important role in a child’s life to what they become in future. If a child receives early childhood education he or she will more likely to contribute to society because the social, emotional and mental wellness is prepared at a young age.
Qualities and Competencies
1) Patience – having patience for children is very important because children are mischievous and tend to step on our patience at times.
2) Respect – respecting and accepting children for who they are as children does the same towards adults.
3) Dedication – commitment and time are 2 important tools in teaching children
4) Creativity – creativity in planning lessons for children is a plus point
5) Co-operation and Understanding- at times you have to take the time to know and understand why a child acts in such a way and then to find a solution to solve a problem or a situation.
Problems faced by Teachers
1) Salary and benefits is not proportionate to the work and teacher’s labour.
-A pre-school teacher’s salary is quite low in Malaysia, hence increases the turn over rate. Society has a thinking that pre-school teacher is a low paid job
