Abstract
The attitude, body language, motivation, and values which define a person’s work have a lot to do with one’s professional identity. A person’s professional identity has to do with knowing who they are at the current point in time and knowing who they want to be in the future. Knowing and understanding what that professional role is, brings not only pride to self, it also challenges the person to promote growth among others through reflection of their accomplishments of their work. This is especially noticed in those who work within the community such as counselors. Counselors show a strong and proud sense of knowing who they are as they serve

For example I teach, coping, self-esteem, self-discovery, anger management, respect for others as well as respect for self. I use a curriculum for teens that deals with things that they stand for and peer pressure. I feel that what I currently do will not be too far from what I aspire to do with my long term professional future. In a world where children are the future of our world and the environment that they are faced to with living one day at a time, not to mention the constant suffering that some endure daily, I feel that my need to push and succeed is not only for myself, but for the lives of those that God has placed in front of me to …show more content…
As a behavioral health rehabilitation specialist I have found that I dress very comfortably because my clients and I are continuously doing activities that require a lot of activities or crafts as it allows me to mingle with the children. I wear a Polo that represents my name and title so that I am not seen as an average adult with a bunch of children. I keep a strong and fun attitude but always professional. When the time comes and I have an office of my own, I will always carry myself with professionalism however I am not sure of the attire yet as I remember how I felt as a client walking into an office that I felt I was very beneath and walked out of feeling even more ashamed of being in the parking lot. This feeling is not how I want any of my clients to feel. I think you can be good at what you do despite what you

As it pertains to working in the medical field, I learned from today’s lecture that judgment is based more on the characteristics of professionalism than the medical training itself. (Absher, 2016). These professional characteristics consist of appearance, attire and behaviors to name just a few. Not only is it imperative that we dress professional for this reason, but also because of the negative affects a casual dress code can have on one’s behaviors and work ethics. According to Absher (2016), dressing in a more relaxed attire can lead to an increase in tardiness, and poor choice of conversations between coworkers as well…

In this light, Chickering’s theory of identity development can be very useful in my own personal quest for success within educational counseling. According to Chickering and Reisser (1993) there are three admonitions that underscore the creation of educationally powerful environments: (a) Integration of work and learning: will allow me to maintain collaborative relationships and integrate work opportunities into the campus and produce ways for students to find internships and eventually jobs (b) Recognition and Respect for Individual Differences: will help me to be cognizant of the different backgrounds and needs of students and allow me to adjust my approaches to meet those needs. And (c) Acknowledgment of the Cyclical Nature of Learning and Development: will assist me to recognize that I will face difficult times and that new experiences and challenges will arise granting me new perspectives and a more complex understanding of how to provide opportunities to challenge individuals’ thought processes to gain a deeper understanding of them (Evans et al. 2010, p. 71). The aforementioned model and theories will help guide me and illuminate who I am and where I am going; remind me to create an environment for meaningful discussions with those I counsel, and to utilize and embrace the resources that are available to me to help one student at a time--equally and…

I think that people dress a certain way according to their job. Like I previously stated, it all depends on what your employer wants you to wear. If you don't wear what you are expected to wear then you could be fired from your job. Also if you don't wear what is expected then you will most likely will not be taken seriously at you job if you still have it. I know that if I went to a lawyer…

The dress and appearance should always reflect the highest standard of professionalism. The appearance of the employees plays an important part in how the public perceives the company. In our organization, a business casual dress should be adopted. Business casual means clothing appropriate for the office. It also means "dressing professionally, looking relaxed yet neat and pulled together" (Boer, 2001, para 3). The purpose of a business casual policy is to provide a comfortable work environment while still projecting a professional image. Representatives of the company should dress in an appropriate manner during work hours and while conducting company business.…

This is becoming a problem in our society where people think that being informal and unprofessional will get you far. When in reality, you will only make it so far and then you need to act and look professional. People will give you more respect and listen to you just by dressing and acting more professional. It gives you a sense of knowledge and authority just to your look and people respect that. For an example, if you are the manager of a bank and you show up to work wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt. Do you think the other employees under you will think highly of you? Or give you the authority you deserve? Probably not. This goes for just about every higher job position and for as little as dressing up nice, it’s a easy start to being more…
