Ray Bradbury's 'A Sound Of Thunder'

"I try not to describe the future, I try to prevent it.", a famous quote said by Ray Bradbury ().

Today I will be going in depth of what this quote means and how it relates to all four of his stories. He wants us to know that this could be the beginning to the end, proving vital examples and signs in his stories. Nevertheless, let's get started! As we can see from this quote ,he shows what he's trying to do, prevent the future. He wants us to know that we're not going to appreciate "nature" like we will normally do, giving us specific examples or scenarios of what could possibly happen in the distinct future. There's a different side of the story to Ray, a completely alternative universe. Which he explains in this quote.

A few paragraphs before, both parents had been nearly executed of what seemed like real life lions. Not soon after, they would be killed towards the end of the story, because of technology. Next let's look at the story "A Sound of Thunder", this story proves that technology may get so advanced we could change the history and the future. "Crushing certain plants could add up infinitesimally. A little error here would multiply in sixty million years, all out of proportion." (The Sound of Thunder) and "We don't want to change the future. We don't belong here in the Past" (The Sound of Thunder) Both these quotes have a vivid warning of what could possibly happen in the future. The quote: "We don't belong here in the Past" could potentially be the first warning, saying like it means, we don't belong there! It's very obvious that if did come down to such a scenario where we could travel back in time, that nothing can be touched which becomes a very fair warning from Mr.Bradbury. Let's first look at "The Veldt" in the story the parents had heard many screams, very familiar screams, which shows something was a little off. Soon they would go back and check the Veldt, only to their surprise they would be screaming and eaten alive.The quote from this story "And suddenly they realized why those other screams bad sounded familiar." (The Veldt) Shows that they were killed, proving technology can kill people as if had gotten so advanced it produced real life animals (). Another way he shows us technology can kill us is in "The Sound of Thunder" In this story we have already sensed that someone could die, but it would not have happened from a raging T-Rex. It was the aftermath of what had been done. The quote "He heard Travis breathe loud in the room; he heard Travis shift his rifle, click the safety catch, and raise the weapon. ()There was a sound of thunder." (The Veldt) shows another death from the outcome of technology. Technology would be the main leading cause of this death. Not only did it change the future and past, it resulted in an unfortunate casualty. So in conclusion, technology can kill us, it could lead to many redundant deaths, which was a major warning he gave
