Reflection Of My Writing
“Writing,” a term that can have several definitions. In my opinion, writing is the simplest and most basic form of physically producing your thoughts and ideas on a platform. Whether it be on paper or in the form of a text message or email, each platform has a specific function and purpose. It’s scary to think about the way writing has evolved over the years, Ever since I was a toddler, I’ve grown up speaking english. Over the years, I definitely think that my writing has developed and evolved and there are many factors that have influenced and shaped the way that I write today. Filled with the dramatic OMG’s, LOLs, WTF’s and several other abbreviations, most of the texts between my friends and I are very casual and straightforward. The use of “textspeak” plays a significant role. Michaela Cullington highlights the use of “textspeak” in her paper called “Texting and Writing,” where she discusses the use of textspeak and formal writing based on pre existing research as well as research of her own. Although Cullington’s sources don’t come across to be credible, I do agree with her findings to the extent that I can make a distinction between using textspeak and formal wiriting. The language I use and the way I text doesn't influence my writing academically or formally. There is a clear distinction between the two in terms of content and language. Since most of my friends from back home are at different colleges across the States, we’ve started talking a lot about college. More than that, I’ve noticed that the most common conversations between us are informing each other of various incidents and occurrences in our lives which also may be termed as “gossip” to be more specific. A lot of the times, I see myself asking my best friends for advice over text. It is definitely hard to stay in touch and constantly text each other since everyone is transitioning into the college life, but there is definitely a difference in the way we used to text each other back home and the way we text each other now, in terms of what we talk about. *INSERT LINK TO PICTURES* Being at Syracuse for about a month now, I’ve also made new friends here and text them frequently as well.
