Revenge
Revenge?
• Whenever someone does something that hurts us we have a natural inclination to hurt them back.
• We know this is wrong and we are taught that forgiveness is the path we should follow but there’s no denying the satisfaction and the warm feeling we feel inside that comes with revenge.

The Desire
• As a leader, succumbing to the desire for revenge is dangerous not only to your standing as a
Leader but also to your career.
• So how should a Leader react when hurt by someone? • A common answer is to automatically forgive anyone who upsets you.

•While this is a noble response I feel this does not give you the satisfaction you need in order to carry on with your life.
•What tends to happen is that there’s a little part of you deep inside that still has issues.
•Like an animal that hasn’t been fed, it gets louder and louder wanting to be heard until the sound gets so loud that it raises its ugly head in the form of behaviour that is not very leader-like.

•Things like:
You give the offender the cold shoulder: “I don’t care I will just never talk to that person ever again”.
•You are congenial to that person when face to face but when talking to others you criticise them.
•You explode in anger in the midst of a conversation or meeting.
•The person who has upset you automatically gets more severe action taken against them than would have normally been taken. •Sounds familiar?

• Whenever you are hurt the beast inside you awakens and once it is awake it needs to be fed and the only food it wants is revenge.
• The key is to tame this beast and to use it as a driver to achieve what you want to achieve.

Step one: Control your reactions.
•“Any person capable of angering you becomes your master. He can anger you only when you permit yourself to be disturbed by him” – Epictetus
•The beast awakens only because you have allowed it to awaken.
•When someone hurts you it’s because you have allowed yourself to feel hurt.
• If someone says something nasty either to you

Acting on revenge can either be bittersweet or deadly. Revenge is the act of “getting someone back” who has done another person wrong. The emotion one feels that could lead to revenge is anger, as a replacement of grief. Normally, the person taking revenge lets the one who has done him wrong know that he is vengeful. Other times, the person would act upon his revenge without letting the victim know what he is getting revenge on. Although, sometimes, an individual would just forgive the other person and move on.…

The author of the article, “The Futility of Vengeance” explains that revenge is something that can lead to bad and uncomfortable situations for both the initial bully and the retaliator if appropriate actions are not taken. The author believes that revenge should be taken more seriously so that only one person can be considered the one in the wrong when it comes to legal matters. She talks about how the desire for revenge consumes people's lives, and leads them to do awful things. The author, Kate Murphy, includes examples of revenge scenarios such as Allen Kurzweil’s “Whipping boy” about how he got bullied as a kid, and how he finds and tracks down the bully. She uses this example to demonstrate that revenge is a very powerful motive when it comes to some people. She also explains how the victims just want to hear a heart filled apology, and she points out that is ironic because people will not say sorry after you take revenge.…

Revenge is a harmful action against a person or a group. It is characterized as a form of justice, seeking or taking vengeance for oneself or another person by retaliating in response to a grievance. Within the short declaration "Of Revenge" by Francis Bacon he describes the self-destructive nature and the injustices that revenge brings about while detailing the benefits of forgiveness. While "He Becomes Deeply and Famously Drunk" by Brady Udall 's story explores the concept of revenge as Archie contemplates killing his father 's murderer until realizing the elderly man Calfred Pulsipher is not worth the effort and lets go of his anger. From the short story "Spanish Roulette" by Ed Vega the poet Sixto vows revenge against a local gang member who raped his sister and battles with himself to make the right choice. Although revenge may be the momentary satisfaction in times of despair, no man extracts revenge for the sake of evil, without the intent of profiting from it, and will be punished for it, regardless of reason, in this life or the next.…

    An Act Of Vengeance

The short story An Act of Vengeance written by Isabel Allende left me hungry with suspense. The opening paragraph begins with the crowning of Carnival Queen. Dulce Rosa the daughter of a senator was the winner of the crown. The mothers of the other contestants harbored envy and jealousy in their hearts because their daughters did not win. While continuing to read, my mind portrayed An Act of Vengeance was going to be sought on Dulce Rosa because of the snide thoughts of the losing contestant mothers. They felt as though their daughters were more beautiful. These mothers did not hold any regards to talent or the personality and characters of the contestants, only beauty. “They admitted that the girl (Dolce Rosa) was charming and she played the piano and danced like no other” (Allende, p.15). The mothers believed that Dolce Rosa only won the crown because her father was a powerful man. A few months later tragedy struck the home of the Senator and these mothers were overjoyed that Dolce Rosa suffered so much pain, but in the end it is safe to assume that these same mothers helped Dolce Rosa rebuild her life after tragedy struck.…

    Lack Of Amnesty In Hamlet

It is obvious that tragic heroes usually commit an error, which will lead to their tragic doom. But what other critics has not considered as they analyzed tragic heroes is their incapability of granting/asking clemency as they are incapable of making right or wise decisions such as granting clemency in the strict sense. Typically, anger, love, jealousy or ambition are typical driving powers of which one at least is ultimately responsible for their shortsighted decisions before they go through ‘recognition.’ For instance, anguish is the ultimate driving power, which makes Hamlet incapable of amnesty in Hamlet 3.3. Thus, he withholds clemency from his uncle who expresses his remorse for killing his brother, the former king and Hamlet’s father.…

    1) Laertes and Hamlet both have different approaches to revenge. Laertes basically says that he will not be messed with and just wants to get to the point of the revenge, and uses a lot of religious language to deal with the problem. He also mentions how he doesn’t care what happens to him after he sets revenge, he doesn’t care what’s right and what’s wrong and doesn’t want to hear anything but his own views on the story and especially not Hamlet’s. However hamlet uses a lot of aggression in his speech, he is more natural at plotting revenge and just wants to stay loyal to his father after swearing on an oath; however hamlet doesn’t want to endanger any of his friends in the mission to plot revenge which contrasts with Laertes revenge. Laertes doesn’t care what happens as long as he gets what he wants, whereas Hamlet is actually loyal to his friends as well as his father. Hamlet see’s all the pain that Claudius has caused and says that he’s killed his king so now Hamlet wants to sit and plot revenge to kill him. Laertes just wants to go out and set revenge whereas Hamlet takes things into consideration and plots it.…

“ON THAT GLORIUS NOONDAY when Dulce Rosa Orellano was crowned with jasmines of Carnival Queen, the mothers of the other candidates murmured that it was unfair for her to win just because she was the only daughter of the most powerful man in the entire province, Senator Anselmo Orellano” (Charters, 2011, p.42). This first paragraph of the passage as well as the title of the story leads the reader to prepare for some sort of battle. The story goes on to discuss how her looks were not the cutest but because she was talented in playing the piano and had the ability to dance well it compensated for her attractiveness. The story went on to discuss how many men from other villages came out to meet her at the dance (this is where she was crowned). Once they returned to their village make believe stories of her beauty were discussed such like the game of telephone where each time it was transferred to another they added on to the tale. With all of the envy and commotion will something happen to her father and with her being the only child and a female instead of a male will she be capable of retaliating against the wrong done to her family or no?…
