Role of Information Technology in Business
Since we live in the “information age,” information technology has become a part of our everyday lives. It plays a key role in today's business environment. Many companies greatly rely on computers and software in order to provide accurate information to effectively manage their business. It is becoming increasingly necessary for all businesses to incorporate information technology solutions to operate successfully. The fundamental reasons for the popularity of computers with small businesses are their efficiency, speed, low procurement cost and more than anything else, capability to handle multiple tasks with little chance for error.
Information technology (IT) has become a vital and integral part of every business plan. From multi-national corporations who maintain mainframe systems and databases to small businesses that own a single computer, IT plays a role.
IT professionals perform a variety of duties that range from installing applications to designing complex computer networks and information databases. Communication: The information technology has revolutionized the way that the world does business. Correspondence that once took weeks to get from one organization to another is now delivered instantly with the push of a button. Advancement in IT has created an environment, minimizing the need for business travel. Computers provide wide variety of communication methods that include email, chat, web conferencing and VOIP etc.
IT to Enhance Decision Making:
The massive volume of information available today both on the Internet and through corporate networks can be used as reference material to make or justify decisions.
IT and Employment: As the advancement in information technology has created number of jobs for IT professionals, on the other hand it has also reduced employment opportunities as well. For example computers now assist at call centers with answering customer questions, which were previously
