The article I am writing about is called," Psychology's case for same-sex marriage." This being such a big hot button now a days seemed perfect to see why psychologists have decided to study this topic. Written by Christopher Munsey; he states that the reason this topic was brought to order was because of the amendment struck down in California allowing same-sex marriage. He says that after the California Supreme Court ruled against this topic, 18,000 same-sex couples got married within half a year. Psychologists discussed results from research on homosexual marriages. This included, the impact of stigma. Laws that exclude lesbian, gay and bisexual people from marriage cause stress, and that stress negatively impacts physical and mental health, said Ilan Meyer, PhD, of Columbia University. He goes on to say that the need to conceal one's true self front he world exacerbates the pressures that everyone feels in daily life. Basically saying, that a gay persons stress level is multiplied by ten due to them needing to cover up who they really are, because the world won't accept them. Their strength is very commendable though. Survey's conducted showed 75 percent of lesbians and gay men were in a relationship with one person. Similar to heterosexuals, or straight people, gay people date in their 20's and settle down in their 30's in a long term relationship. The last would be the children. Researchers said that kids raised by gays, or lesbians lead perfectly normal lives. Also, that their guardians are able to provide for them everything a regular couple would be able to. In my personal opinion, same-sex marriage should be legal. This is America, and everyone should receive the same benefits, and have the same lifestyles as any other normal American.
