The importance to understand * Diversity – is about recognising and understanding people’s different backgrounds accepting and respecting each individual. This could be their age, race, ethnic, gender, physical abilities, religious beliefs, sexual orientation. It’s about understanding each individual differences and creating an effective community and workforce. * Equality – is about quality of being the same in quantity, measure and a state of being essentially equal. Individuals are to be treated the same. * Inclusion – is about being included in everything that every other individual does an that no matter what their needs are everybody should be involved and to adapt the way it’s done for individuals who have specific needs. * Discrimination – is where a person is discriminated for their age, race, religion, ethnic, sexual orientation, physical abilities. It’s about treatment of prejudice and defining ways of observing differences and a distinction made with mind or action.
Ways in which people may be discriminated deliberately could be for example if someone was vegetarian but doesn’t get the choice of a vegetarian meal is being discriminated when they know that person is a vegetarian. It could be that individuals are not getting along and may ignore them for a number of reasons either cause of their age, sex, religion, disabilities and beliefs could mean that they are treated less favourably or given lower standard of care because of the above reasons. Which can cause problems as certain information may not of been passed on an the colleague may not be aware of vital information which could cause harm to the individual they are looking after an they could blame them deliberately or inadvertenly thinking they didn’t need to know.
All practices would have equality and diversity policies and procedures put in place that every employee must follow. It is important that the practice is followed correctly and that every individual
